DescriptionUnder the general supervision of the IT Director, performs installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair on the City’s Windows server network, hardware, software, applications and related peripherals. This is a highly technical position within the City of Sanibel’s Information Technology Department that provides routine and advanced end user technical support. Ensures the use of cost efficient and effective methods and techniques in all tasks performed. Serves as Acting IT Director in the absence of the Director. Participates in departmental on-call after hours rotation.
DutiesProvides end user computer network and PC hardware and software support for the City’s Windows operating systems users.
Performs troubleshooting, identification, maintenance and repair on the network, hardware and related peripherals and devices.
Coordinates with end users the resolution to system issues in a manner to minimize disruption in system utility.
Sets up new users to the system, to include providing technical training on new hardware and software acquisitions.
Schedules and provides all updates to the network system software and various other application programs.
Installs network cables, systems, hardware and software; configures hardware and software for end users.
Contacts vendors and manufacturers, as needed, to communicate and resolve network, hardware, software and program problems.
Installs or assists personnel in installation of hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers, and disk drives on user premises.
Responds to client inquiries concerning systems operation and diagnoses system hardware, software and operator problems.
Instructs users in use of equipment, software and manuals.
Required Education, Experience, License, Registration, and Certification Qualifications EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - High school diploma; and
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field; and
- Three (3) years’ of related technical work experience; or
- An equivalent combination with an Associate’s Degree in the above stated fields along with five (5) years of significant experience with proven experience in Microsoft 365 administration, server administration, network information systems installation, configuring, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair to include provision of end user support for a wide range of hardware and software needs, will be considered.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS - Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire or promotion.
- Must have current MD-102 Endpoint Administrator; and
- MS-102 Microsoft 365 Administrator (or obtain this certification within 2 years of date of hire.)
- IT Director will assign additional industry standard professional certifications, as needed, with a sufficient and agreed upon length of time to obtain certification requirements, following assignment.
Supplemental or Additional InformationKnowledge of Microsoft server operating systems to include setup, installation, troubleshooting, routine maintenance and upgrading.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of local area network software and hardware, design, installation, and maintenance.
Knowledge of a variety of software packages commonly used on personal computers including word processing, spreadsheets and recovery file, and backup software.
Knowledge of personal computer hardware installation and repair; common personal computer programming techniques; common programming languages.
Skill in installing and performing routine maintenance on computer and network equipment and correcting configuration errors.
Ability to identify, analyze and resolve customer/user problems.
Ability to understand, interpret and explain hardware and software application solutions to users.
Ability to research technical materials to provide solutions to problems.
Ability to develop and maintain procedure manuals; develop and implement computer training; and identify and analyze information system needs.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
