    The Fire Inspector will provide a high quality of consistent service to the engineering, architectural, construction community, building and business owners, and other citizens through comprehensive inspections through enforcement, interpretation, and application of fire codes, building codes, state regulations, special use permit requirements, operational permit requirements, and other County ordinances. The Fire Inspector is responsible for ensuring compliance with the County's adopted fire code through a variety of tasks including, but not limited to, the inspection of existing and new occupancies, the inspection of fire protection systems, and assisting with other fire code enforcement activities.

    Examples of Duties

    Schedules, coordinates, and conducts annual fire and life safety inspections of buildings, properties, and oil & gas wells and inspects various types of fire and life safety systems and equipment, including fire alarms, fire sprinklers, generators, fire pumps, elevators, and special life safety systems, for compliance with County fire codes, other related standards, and other county and state requirements.

    Prepares and maintains inspection reports and resolves compliance problems with various parties through written or verbal communication and maintains a record of communication.

    Schedules, coordinates, and performs fire and life safety inspections of licensed facilities, such as day cares, foster homes, schools, hospitals, and other medical facilities.

    Participates in pre-development and/or pre-construction meetings with members of the design community as needed.

    Reviews basic site, tenant finish out and other less complex plans to determine compliance with applicable codes as needed.

    Issues legal orders related to the enforcement of the fire code.

    Performs community outreach, public education, and other risk-reduction activities as requested. Prepares and participates in the presentation of training to various audiences.

    Assists with plan review.

    Attends training classes and conferences on a variety of fire code-related topics.

    Regular and punctual attendance is required.

    Performs other related duties as required.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Must be 18 years of age.
    High School diploma or GED required.
    Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Basic Fire Inspector Certificate and Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Basic Plans Review Certificate required.
    Possession of a valid driver's license. Must be able to obtain a State of Texas Class C driver's license within 90 days.
