    The Tulare County Health & Human Services Agency (HHSA) is recruiting for an Extra-Help Physical Therapist Assistant to join the Public Health Branch.

    As extra help positions become available, the Health & Human Services Agency will select the most qualified and appropriate applicant for the position available. The number of hours and duration of employment varies by each assignment. Extra help employees may work in a variety of departments in locations throughout the geographic county area. Extra help employees may not work more than 1,559 hours in any fiscal year from July to June. An extra help employee who mistakenly works in excess of 1,559 hours in a fiscal year does not become a probationary or regular employee.

    Applications will be active for six months. If you are hired for extra help and you complete a work assignment and then if you wish to be employed again, you must resubmit an Extra Help application online.

    There are no benefits associated with extra help positions.

    This position will assist in providing therapy treatments to children with physical disabilities as assigned by the Licensed Physical Therapist. This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill immediate and future vacancies.

    The Extra Help Physical Therapist Assistant will assist with treatment documentation and carry out the physical therapy plan as set forth by the Physical Therapist and will assist in the overall general maintenance and organization of the therapy unit. The successful candidate will assist the Physical Therapist in teaching mobility skills, positioning, and functional activities to the child, parents, and caregivers, and help parents and caregivers understand the best ways to care for physically disabled children.

    Typical Duties

    Key Responsibilities
    • Use tact and understanding in dealing with patients, families, and caregivers
    • Cooperate with other professional and paraprofessional staff to ensure coordinated patient care and training
    • Assist with the preparation of accurate, concise, treatment and care coordination notes
    • Teaches mobility skills, positioning, range of motion, functional activities, and therapeutic exercise techniques to the child, parents, and other caregivers.
    • Assist the parents/caregivers in understanding how best to care for and handle physically disabled children.
    • Observes and reports progress towards therapy goals as well as unusual occurrences or reactions to therapy


    Minimum Qualifications

    Required Qualifications

    Candidates must meet the qualifications listed below by the application deadline .
    • Graduation from a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accredited PTA program.
    • Possession of a California Physical Therapy Assistant license (certified by the Physical Therapy Board of California) to practice as a physical therapist assistant in the State of California.

    Conditions of Employment
    • Candidates selected will be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Additionally, a background investigation may also be conducted, which may include a re-investigation every 10 years for some positions. An Employment Eligibility Verification using E-Verify may be required on the first day of employment for some positions. Some job classes may also require a physical exam.
    • If in a driving position candidates must be able to obtain and retain a valid California driver's license.
