Staff Development TrainerDivision of Labor Standards / Mine Safety SectionAnnual Salary Range: $50,000 to $60,000 commensurate with experience

What you will do: - Travels to mining locations within the state to give courses in mine safety and health.
- Conducts classes in mine safety and health in such areas as: general mine safety, mine procedures, electrical safety, first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, handling explosives, etc.
- Prepares reports on plans and progress of training and keeps required records.
- Performs liaison function to employers to inform them of progress and of any problems encountered.
- Operates various audio-visual aids, such as laptop computer, digital projectors, PowerPoint, and other AV equipment and software used in an instructional setting.
- Assists in the selection and development of materials and audio-visual aids for use in training programs.
- Participates in evaluation studies to determine the effectiveness of training and the need for revision or addition of material to courses.
- Performs safety and health consultations.
- Performs safety and health inspection/audits for instructional planning.
All you need for success: Qualifications - 5 years of experience in one or a combination of the following: mining (one year must have involved substantial work or training in mine safety), or safety and health education for which the candidate possesses a current license or certificate.
OR
- 1 year of professional or technical experience in occupational safety or safety and health work; and graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, with major specialization (approximately 30 semester hours) in occupational safety or in closely related studies. (Graduate education in the specialty indicated above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.)

Desired Attributes - Special Requirement - Mine Safety and Health Certification at the time of appointment as an instructor in mine safety. (Blue Card holder)
- Working knowledge of mining and quarrying operations and of the occupational hazards involved.
- Working knowledge of the safety laws and regulations pertaining to mines and quarries.
- Some knowledge of the methods, techniques and materials of organized instruction.
- Ability to teach mine safety and health courses effectively.
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
