Description

Performs information systems support and analysis for a specified function or area within a department and ensures that all concerns are addressed and closed within the prescribed practices and required timeline. The Departmental Systems Analyst will implement and test fare collection system devices and software. The Departmental Systems Analyst will also complete analysis and report generation of revenue collection, ridership, Metro programs, and service performance of Metro and Municipal Transit Operators.

Examples of Duties

  • Performs systems analysis and provides systems support in a specified application area
  • Develops, oversees, and maintains information systems
  • Produces various reports for functional areas
  • Consults with staff from functional areas and users to determine information processing needs and to design/identify specific training programs
  • Designs technical systems specifications describing information processing functions required by the users
  • Evaluates and recommends use of commercial software in application area
  • Provides input to consultants regarding user needs and acceptability of alternatives for development of assigned systems
  • Coordinates with systems programmers
  • Evaluates systems to ensure that user requirements are properly satisfied
  • Troubleshoots, analyzes, and resolves user and systems problems
  • Monitors system performance and integrity
  • Designs and implements upgrades to user interface
  • Communicates system upgrade needs to ITS (Information Technology Services)
  • Responds to system emergencies
  • Researches and prepares reports, systems training manuals, and technical systems documentation
  • Monitors historic data to ensure proper records retention
  • Participates in the department's information security, disaster recovery, and safety programs

Minimum Qualifications

A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:

Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field


Experience
  • One year of relevant experience performing work within a department leading to an understanding of systems for computerization or programming in FOCUS and other user-oriented languages


Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications (PQs) are used to identify relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) as determined by business necessity. The following are the preferred qualifications:


  • Experience receiving and fulfilling transit customer service requests to improve TAP (Transit Access Pass) user interface.
  • Experience documenting projects and requirements including system integration tests.
  • Experience performing testing of systems and device software.
  • Experience performing data analysis with applications like SQL (Structured Query Language), Salesforce, or others to ensure quality product.

  • Theories, principles, and practices of specified application areas and systems analysis and design
  • Applicable software, such as Crystal Reports, .NET Framework, etc.

  • System administration, security practices, and user management
  • Query generation, data organization, and database design
  • Statistical analysis and data interpretation

  • Analyzing and designing information systems in a specified application area
  • Listening to users, interpreting needs, and providing support
  • Managing database information and developing data warehouses, using systems such as Oracle Database
  • Application utilization, maintenance, planning, troubleshooting, and upgrades, such as Crystal Reports
  • Basic programming languages, such as SQL (Structured Query Language), Crystal Syntax, etc.
  • Troubleshooting system problems and developing solutions
  • Preparing easily consumable reports, professional e-mails, and correspondence
  • Exercising sound judgment and creativity in making decisions
  • Communicating effectively orally and in writing
  • Interacting professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives
