This position will manage all aspects of the Missouri State Public Health Laboratory (MSPHL) Informatics Unit to ensure the management of samples effectively and accurately, laboratory data, automated workflows, electronic messaging, and instrument integration throughout the laboratory and the development and distribution of laboratory information with associated statewide and federal partners. This position will direct the overall future design/development/maintenance of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and associated systems. This position is vital in the collaborative efforts with our various partners to include MSPHL system vendors, the Association of Public Health Laboratories, and our many submitters. This is a challenging and rewarding position that is critical in the continued success of MSPHL.

  • Managing all aspects of the MSPHL Informatics Unit including overall management, planning, reporting, budgeting, and policy of the unit.
  • Directs overall planning, development, and administration of the Laboratory Information Management and associated systems.
  • Plan and evaluate system processes to ensure quality improvement opportunities are identified and implemented when effective.
  • Develop and routinely review Informatics Unit budget with the MSPHL Fiscal Unit staff.
  • Propose projects, write workplans and budgets, and report on various grants.
  • Partner and collaborate with programmatic partners to maintain relationships and keep current with department projects that impact the MSPHL.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will possess strong critical thinking and leadership skills, high levels of commitment, ability to work in a team and across units, meet deadlines, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Candidates must be able to work independently with minimal level of supervision. Candidates must have intermediate knowledge and experience with SQL, Microsoft Excel, and experience in system administration.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 6 or more years of relevant experience (Substitutions may be allowed).
