ABOUT THE POSITION

The FIRE Foundry is seeking a dynamic group of recruits for the Public Education Development and Outreach Specialist positions. The position will focus on education and outreach related to wildfire safety. This role will work to educate our communities and enhance the effectiveness of fire prevention and hazard education through community outreach programs and initiatives. The positions are temporary/part-time max 30 hours a week (hours vary per week depending on the various projects) beginning mid-late October 2024 and continue through beginning/end March 2025.

Some duties and responsibilities include:
  • Working with the FIRE Foundry leadership team to plan and create educational materials and resources for the public.
  • Collaborating with local organizations and government agencies to distribute materials to Marin County community members.
  • Work on volunteer events, social media, trainings and fire adjacent skills such as GIS.


ABOUT YOU

We are looking for someone who has an interest working in the fire service and is a self-starter with a passion for educating and engaging with communities to enhance fire safety. A background or relevant education in emergency medical services or a related field is preferred.
In addition, the highly qualified candidate has:
  • Experience as a FIRE Foundry recruit.
  • The ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups of people.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Eagerness to gain knowledge and understanding of wildfire safety and defensible space.
  • Spanish speaker and writer is preferred.
This job class requires travel between various County and business-related locations. Employees who drive on County business to carry out job-related duties must possess a valid California driver's license for the class of vehicle driven and meet automobile insurability requirements of the County, including review of a recent DMV history. Use of a personal vehicle is required. Incumbent will be reimbursed for mileage at the standard IRS rate for 2025.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be:
  • Enrolled at a college or university, or vocational curriculum or within one year of having graduated, or
  • A participant in a supervised program to meet licensure requirements of the State of California.
Additional minimum qualifications may apply depending upon the internship.
