Description Bilingual (Spanish/English) Victim Witness Advocate in the Charleston County Office Victim of Crime Act (VOCA) Grant Position: The Bilingual Victim Witness Advocate provides direct services to victims of crime. This Advocate also provides notification of court hearings; court accompaniment; filing victim compensation claims; data collection and reporting; planning and coordinating meetings; interpreting for adult and child victims and witnesses during meetings and court; safety planning with victims; and, other duties listed in the South Carolina Victim Bill of Rights, or as needed. Seeking a self-motivated and compassionate individual to work closely with victims of crime in Charleston County. The full-time (37.5 hours per week) Advocate will work under the supervision of the Victim Witness Coordinator. HIRING SALARY RANGE: $50,440 (Estimated Annual Salary) OPEN UNTIL FILLED - APPLICATION REVIEW BEGINS IMMEDIATELY Duties and Responsibilities JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Interprets for Spanish-Speaking victims/witnesses Outreach and advocacy for crime victims/witnesses Assists victims/witnesses through the entire criminal justice process Provides victims/witnesses with the rights and responsibilities as victims and witnesses of crimes, court procedures, County/State criminal codes Provides courtroom orientation/assistance to victims/witnesses and their families Works with victims in the areas of crisis intervention, one-on-one support, and referrals Acts as a liaison between law enforcement, solicitors, and the victim Works closely with law enforcement agencies, social service agencies, and non-profit organizations that provide services to crime victims Works in the field, locating victims and witnesses Performs other related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Associate Degree in Criminal Justice and two years or more related experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Must be fluent in Spanish - spoken and written Computer experience including MS Office, WORD or other commonly accepted word processing application required Mainframe data entry experience preferred Excellent writing skills, public speaking skills, and presentation skills Knowledge of the criminal justice system and court procedures Ability to deal with highly emotional and stressful situations Valid South Carolina driver’s license required Criminal and general background check will be completed on selected applicant Charleston County offers competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits package to its employees, including but not limited to: Health, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance Optional Life and Disability Insurance Optional Medical and Dependent Care Spending Accounts Annual and Sick Leave Fourteen (14) recognized Holidays South Carolina Retirement System (SCRS) State Retirement Plan Police Officers Retirement System (PORS - as applicable) Optional Deferred Compensation Program Longevity and Merit Pay Increases Optional Federal Credit Union Membership Leadership, Professional and Skill Development Training Employee Assistance Program Employee Well-being Program For more information, visit our benefits page .
