CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY
The City of Kennewick is a dynamic government organization looking for Student Professionals to join their team and help administer essential duties for the Fire Department! To be eligible, the candidate must be currently enrolled in college courses and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. This is a Monday-Friday, part-time position. No overtime is authorized or required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The following list reflects the essential job duties and responsibilities of this classification, but is not considered all-inclusive. The incumbent will be expected to perform other duties as assigned.

  • Enter invoices and requisitions into accounts payable and requisitions system
  • Filing and copying various documents and reports
  • Set up files within filing systems (tabs and labels)
  • Data entry
  • Pick-up incoming mail
  • Photo file organization
  • Other duties as assigned


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must maintain a level of mental and physical fitness required to perform the essential functions of this classification
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Must maintain regular attendance and punctuality
  • Must be currently enrolled in college courses


Supplemental Requirements

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The Fire Department Student Clerk must demonstrate the following skills and abilities:

  • Ability to complete work with a high attention to quality and detail
  • Ability to work with and protect confidential information
  • Ability to foster a collaborative environment with department personnel, City of Kennewick staff, customers, and the contracted ambulance billing company
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
KEY RELATIONSHIPS
As with all members of the department, the Fire Department Student Clerk must conduct themselves in professional, kind, caring, and compassionate manner. The Fire Department Student Clerk must work well with the internal and external customers and all City of Kennewick staff.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The Fire Department Student Clerk work activity requires moderate strength endurance and aerobic capacity. The nature of this position requires an ability to work sitting in a chair for long periods, and requires periodic lifting of boxes of files. Physical demands include but are not limited to:

  • Regular sitting, standing, walking, and fine manipulation skills
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate a variety of mechanical and office equipment
  • Regularly talk, hear/listen and see/observe
  • Must occasionally be able to lift 1- to 25 pounds

WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a year-round, variable-hour position expected to work fewer than 30 hours per week. Some flexibility is available to work around class schedules. Evening, weekend, and holiday work is not required. The work typically takes place in an office environment. Although a regular workspace is assigned, the nature of the work may require driving between various work locations. This classification is non-exempt under the FLSA.

This position is not subject to health benefits, but this position is eligible participate in the Washington State Retirement System (PERS) and the Washington State Paid Sick Leave accruing 1 hour for every 40 hours worked. Also, eligible for holiday pay at a pro-rated basis.
