    Role

    Under close supervision, performs work of average difficulty in preventive maintenance of trucks and equipment.

    Major Duties, Responsibilities

    • Performs preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
    • Performs tire replacement and repairs on all vehicles and equipment in the shop and/or job sites.
    • Performs routine replacement of ground engaging wear parts, which consists of cutting edges and teeth.
    • Tests drive vehicles and equipment to substantiate deficiency complaints and effectiveness of repairs.
    • Performs entry-level equipment and vehicle mechanical diagnosis and repair. Performs shop maintenance, clean-up, and safety.
    • Maintains record of work performed on computer.
    • Runs basic reports regarding pending preventative maintenance due and repair history.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications

    Education:
    High school diploma or equivalent.

    Experience:
    A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment.

    Additional Requirements:

    Must possess or obtain a valid Arizona Class A Commercial driver’s license with tanker endorsement within six months of employment.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Knowledge of:

    • All tools and equipment used in equipment fleet maintenance and repair.
    • Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
    • Business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.
    • Clerical office practices and procedures.
    • Current Microsoft Office software.
    • Filing and recordkeeping.

    Skill in:
    • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with public and employees.
    • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
    • Organization, cleanliness and adherence to detail.

    Ability to:
    • Perform repair work on vehicles and equipment.
    • Effectively and efficiently interpret and apply information contained in technical repair manuals.
    • Work after hours/weekends due to inclement weather or emergency conditions.
    • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
    • Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
    • Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
    • Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
    • Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.

    Work Environment:
    The work environment is associated with a workshop and includes exposure to loud noise, machinery, dust, fumes, mist, and chemicals.

    Physical Requirements:
    Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to walk, bend, push, pull, stoop, kneel, balance, climb, crawl, crouch, and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
