Job Description

The Head Start Education Supervisor is responsible services provided to low-income children and their families to become self-sufficient and prepare for the public-school system. This includes direct supervision of teaching staff. Observes and provides assistance to teaching staff in the classroom with planning developmentally appropriate activities . Ensure assessment information is being uploaded to appropriate database(s) . Provides in-classroom coaching and mentoring to teaching staff on best practices. Provides support to teachers on the implementation of all aspects of lesson planning. Ensure teacher compliance with all childcare licensing standards. Provides resource sharing to provide quality programming. Develop daily classroom coverage plans to ensure licensed teaching staff are meeting on-going ratio demands. Mentor staff and volunteers interested in becoming a qualified teacher.

Schedule:

This is a full-time, standard position that operates on a five-day work week (Monday-Friday). Occasional after-hours may be required , no weekends.

Salary:

Target Hiring Range: $ 70,000 - $ 73,000 annually and is dependent on education and experience.

Staff that are fluent in a language other than English may be eligible for additional compensation of $3,000 annually for use of bi-lingual skills.

Essential Duties:

  • Provide on-going coaching using the Practice Based Coaching Framework for Lead Teachers, Teacher Assistants, and substitute teachers to ensure that the Head Start Performance Standards and Policy and Procedures, as well as implement best practices in early childhood education consistently in the Head Start classrooms. Will collaborate to identify and implement intensive coaching plans to meet Head Start performance standards.


  • Ensure compliance with the following: Teaching Strategies; Observation tool for teacher rating); Results Matter; Colorado Department of Education; Child Care Licensing. Provide ongoing evaluation of data outcomes to determine areas of strengths and weaknesses. Create improvement plans as needed.


  • Teach in classroom as needed. Maintain teaching credentials. Maintain TS Gold teacher inter rater reliability.


  • Supervises staff in area of responsibility. Administers and makes recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting subordinates, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, assigning, scheduling, granting leave, appraisals, and taking corrective action. Conducts performance evaluations and communicates short- and long-term goals and objectives . Submits personnel records and reports as required by the County. Assists and advises subordinates as necessary, resolves problems as non-routine situations arise, and ensures adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards. Communicates changes in policy and procedures to direct reports and implements them as directed.

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Three years of work-related experience AND


  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field


  • OR an equivalent combination of education & experience


Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education


  • Strong customer service


  • Ability to articulate clearly and effectively to varying levels of customers


  • Experience with Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365


  • Strong time management and prioritization skills


  • Previous supervisory experience


  • Previous Head Start experience

  • Must have a valid driver's license, if you are from out of state, you must obtain a valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of hire date and you must not have any major violations, nor more than one DUI, DWI, DWAI conviction in the past three years .


  • Willingness to occasionally travel to assigned Head Start Sites (Arvada or Wheat Ridge).
