Major Duties

Under the general direction of the Deputy Director of Athletics, the Athletic Performance Nutritionist/Dietitian is responsible for evaluating, developing, and implementing programs designed to enhance the diet and nutritional health of CSUN's Division I student-athletes. The incumbent oversees the daily operations of the fueling station to ensure athletes receive optimal nutrition for their training, performance, and overall health.
  • Collaborates with coaches, sports medicine staff, and athletic performance to provide comprehensive nutrition services to all athletic teams.
  • Conducts individual and team nutritional assessments, inputs medical information and data into appropriate databases, and generates reports as needed to help ensure student-athletes are meeting health and nutritional goals and objectives.
  • Develop and implement personalized nutrition plans tailored to the needs of student-athletes; provide ongoing nutritional counseling and education to athletes to enhance performance, recovery, and overall health.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a program approved and accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The RD credential also requires completion of an Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics accredited pre-professional experience program. Additionally, incumbents must possess sufficient experience to perform the assigned duties.
  • Possess and maintain certification as a Registered Dietitian as defined by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Equivalent to 1-2 years of experience in sports nutrition, preferably in a collegiate or professional sports setting preferred.
  • Experience managing a fueling station or similar facility is highly desirable.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of nutrition, dietary needs, and weight control; applicable state and federal regulations about the field including those regarding patient confidentiality. Working knowledge of nutritional care for specific medical conditions; general knowledge of principles, methods, materials, and channels of nutrition education and public information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally; assess needs and evaluate the effectiveness of diet and nutrition programs and materials; promote, organize, and conduct public meetings on nutrition; prepare, select, assemble, evaluate, and distribute nutrition education material such as pamphlets, reports, bulletins, exhibits, posters, films, and news releases; maintain records and prepare reports; work effectively in collaborative health care teams to address specific diet and nutrition needs; keep current with developments in health care related to nutrition; maintain confidentiality consistent with applicable state and federal regulations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other health center staff and representatives of the news media and other community groups; and be sensitive to and communicate effectively with diverse members of the campus community.


Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • Classification: Registered Dietitian / 8130 /1
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $4360 - $4888 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $4360 - $8413 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; may include evenings and weekends.
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
  • The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
