The Olathe Police Department is an innovative and a team oriented department. As a Crime Analyst, you will work to help support our police officers and citizens prevent, reduce, and solve crime.

Salary Range: $60,320 - $82,764

This is a full time position with excellent benefits to include retirement through the Kansas Public Employee Retirement System (KPERS). The city will also match up to 3% into a deferred compensation (457 Retirement Plan). We offer 8 weeks Paid Parental Leave and much more.

Environmental Conditions: Analysts primarily perform work in an office environment. Frequent exposure to computer screens and other electronic equipment can be expected. May be required to work in day-night conditions, endure sustained acts of physical exhaustion and periods of duty under unfavorable conditions.

The PD Crime Intelligence Analyst researches, develops, coordinates, and analyzes data to provide pertinent information regarding crime patterns, trend correlation, and related suspect data for the Olathe Police Department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts highly complex and sensitive tactical, strategic, administrative intelligence analysis and performance analysis for the Police department; produces detailed analytical reports for various divisions, individuals, and external agencies; coordinates crime analyst daily workflow and communication broadcasts for criminal investigations and other special projects/units as needed.
  • Prepares and delivers intelligence and performance analysis related presentations to the Police Department work groups, City departments and the public; collaborate with regional and metro agencies to share information about crimes and area crime trend data.
  • Provides training to other staff within the crime intelligence unit as well and other resources as needed to both the crime analyst unit and department personnel; maintains citywide performance management software system for the police department.


Qualifications

Experience: Must have k nowledge of and/or ability to become proficient in Records Management Systems (NICHE RMS), Lexis-Nexis, REJIS, COPLINK, Openfox, and other progressive crime analyst software tools. Knowledge of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is also required along with knowledge of Federal, State, and Local Law

Education: A bachelor’s degree with major coursework in criminal justice, information technology/computer science, mathematics, or related field required. Additional relevant increasingly responsible and professional analytical experience may substitute for education.

Licenses & Certifications: A valid drivers license and favorable driving history are required. IACA Certification or equivalent preferred. Basics of Crime Analyst Certification also preferred.
