As the Maintenance Supervisor, you'll lead the Facilities & Fleet Division, its operations, and crew in the tasks of maintenance and repair of city buildings and vehicles. This position requires that you bring together your supervisory skills, technical acumen, and interpersonal abilities to ensure smooth operations of the division. We're seeking someone who embodies professionalism, patience, respect, and who thrives in problem-solving scenarios. The ideal candidate would be someone who is eager to take on challenges and inspire others to do the same. Your communication skills will be key both in rallying your team and in building and maintain positive relationships with other city departments!

Examples of Duties

Supervises, assigns, trains, and evaluates subordinate staff and their work; participates in staff decision making in matters such as employment, promotion, performance, retention, separation and other matters. Studies and is familiar with department policies, city personnel regulations, union agreements; is able to assess such information and make recommendations where necessary.Enforces policy and procedure within the sphere of responsibility. Studies work process flow and are comfortable making suggestions for improvement or change where necessary. Gathers and compiles routine, statistical information to prepare reports on department expenses, business levels, and demands, and progress of work.
Facilities Specific Job Duties:
Supervises facility maintenance and facility projects.
Prepares and monitors Maintenance agreements and contractors.
In conjunction with the Equipment Mechanic, implements and maintains preventative maintenance schedules for vehicles/work trucks and performs a safety check on vehicles/work trucks.
Supervises the requisitioning, storing, issuing and delivery of parts, tools, fuels, supplies, and equipment.
Supervises conservation, fire suppression, and other special projects.
Supervises emergency service crews and weekend and holiday personnel.
Performs public contact and liaison work regarding the explanation and interpretation of programs and projects.
Ensures that public facilities and structures are maintained in a clean, safe, healthy condition.
Manages annual purchasing of fleet vehicles and organizes fleet vehicle budget.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

EXPERIENCE:
  • 5+ years of increasingly responsible experience in public works and/or maintenance services department; to include 3+ years of experience at a level equivalent to Maintenance Lead Worker.

  • 3+ years of experience as a Maintenance Supervisor (involved with building/fleet maintenance) is preferred.


EDUCATION:
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
