Major Duties

Under general supervision of the Assistant Director, Health Promotion , and Administration of the Klotz Student Health Center (KSHC), the Health Promotion Specialist collaborates with students, faculty, and staff from various campus departments to promote student wellness and academic success through presentations and other outreach. The incumbent creates, develops, implements, and evaluates Klotz Health Promotion initiatives, as well as supports and promotes KSHC services including gender-affirming care, medication-assisted abortion, and immunizations.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert on first-year student health and wellness and Klotz Student Health Center services manages and delivers U100 presentations, and acts as the primary Health Promotion representative to new student orientations and campus welcome events.
  • Plans, implements and evaluates innovative, theory- and evidence-informed, culturally competent, Health Promotion initiatives.
  • Develops and delivers presentations, workshops, trainings, and outreach events based on the principles of health promotion and harm reduction, and delivers alcohol misuse prevention training.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in an approved program in public health or related field.
  • Equivalent to one (1) to two (2) years of progressively responsible college health education or health promotion experience.
  • Master’s degree in Health Sciences or Public Health Administration may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification is preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of: health promotion/health education theories, research, and program assessment; planning, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion programs; industry standards for the delivery of health promotion programming in higher education.
  • Working knowledge of: the applicable industry standards and practices for health promotion such as those found in the American College Health Association’s “Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education”. Knowledge of traditional and emerging college health issues (including stress, sleep, alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, and sexual and reproductive health).
  • Ability to demonstrate: the utilization of motivational interviewing and Transtheoretical Model in individual health education sessions; excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to provide effective, accurate, and dynamic presentations.
  • Ability to: operate standard office machines and computers; and proficiency in computer software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, graphic design software (e.g. Canva); attend conferences, trainings and meetings, which may require overnight travel.


Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • Classification: Health Educator / 8147 / 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $4789 - $5450 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $4789 - $9244 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; may include evenings and weekends.
