The Election Specialist is a vital part of our team, acting as the face of the Charleston County elections office and the first point of contact for the public. In this role, you will provide exceptional service to voters, assist with voter registration, manage election day operations, and help ensure our elections are conducted smoothly and transparently. You'll utilize your technical expertise to maintain digital voter registration records, work collaboratively to prepare ballots, and support a range of community outreach activities, all while adhering to state and federal laws.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $19.34 - $25.32

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
  • Acquire and maintain a highly technical working knowledge of relevant laws, State Election Commission rules, regulations, policies, standards, and procedures relating to the election process.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the public, providing information and assistance regarding voter registration, voter eligibility requirements, registration deadlines, and polling locations.
  • Greet voters and visitors in person at the front desk, addressing their needs and guiding them through the election process.
  • Receive, process, scan, index, and securely store voter registration documents in accordance with state and federal laws.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of all aspects of the election process, including voter registration, absentee voting, ballot preparation, and election day operations.
  • Coordinate and participate in voter registration drives, including outreach events and community engagement initiatives.
  • Assist with the tabulation and reporting of election results and participate in post-election audits and canvassing activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree in Political Science, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in computer operations, including MS Office, digital record management, and database software.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a collaborative environment.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours during elections, including weekends and evenings as needed.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.

  • Ability to lift and move boxes weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
