The Position

Program Officers administer a program or major component of a program by planning, coordinating and managing services and activities in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements and established program performance standards and objectives.

Incumbents are responsible for administering a large and complex program which affects a significant number of people on a continuing basis; develop, revise, recommend, and implement changes to work plans, program performance standards and objectives for providing services, and eligibility requirements as permitted by program regulations and guidelines; ensure compliance with State, federal and/or other granting agencies rules and regulations; and draft laws, rules and/or regulation changes.

The Program Officer III will serve as the Department of Public Safety's (DPS) primary consultant with the Nevada Indian Commission for the purposes of developing and implementing policy; establishing, maintaining, and promoting communication and collaboration between the DPS and Tribal entities and the Executive Branch Departments within Nevada; and serving as DPS' primary liaison with Tribal entities in Nevada (requires regular travel). The Program Officer III will promote positive relations between the DPS and Tribal entities in Nevada; promote cultural competency within the DPS as it relates to Tribal entities in Nevada. Act as a facilitator/liaison for ongoing communication and collaboration between local law enforcement and Tribal entities in Nevada. The incumbent will develop, implement, and provide training to the DPS on the content of related NRS, policies, agreements, and programs developed by the Nevada Indian Commission and the DPS. Develop, implement, and provide training to Tribal entities in Nevada on the DPS' duties and operations. Develop and implement training for local law enforcement, analyze and disseminate data from DPS regarding their activities pursuant to NRS 233A.200 through 233A.280. Must be willing and capable of traveling throughout the state to meet operational/administrative needs. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, or other discipline related to the program assignment and two years of professional experience in planning, coordinating or administering a program which included interpretation of laws and regulations; development of program policy and procedures; development and implementation of program performance standards and objectives for providing services; and development and implementation of eligibility requirements; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of professional experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Program Officer II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
