We are thrilled to introduce a special opportunity to connect with the Palo Alto Community and its visitors. We are in search of a highly engaging Customer Service Specialist who will be the first point of contact for customers and visitors at City Hall.

This position entails being the primary receptionist at the City Hall Lobby, handling incoming telephone calls, welcoming visitors in person, identifying their needs, and guiding them to the appropriate department. The role involves providing information and referrals on various topics, maintaining up-to-date reference materials for public distribution, fostering positive relationships with departments, divisions, elected officials, other agencies, and the public, and promoting an enthusiastic and effective customer service approach.

Schedule: Monday-Friday (during business hours, 8 a.m. -5 p.m., approximately 20 hours a week).

Essential Duties:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide information and respond to inquiries from the public, or personnel; may refer visitor or caller to other appropriate sources of information.
  • Assist with answering the telephone, taking messages, and communicating customer's needs using tact and judgment; provide information regarding City services.
  • May need to maintain routine information at hand or electronically to provide resources to customers.
  • Foster relationships with community members, visitors and personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Sufficient education, training and/or work experience would typically be acquired through:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
and
  • 2 years of customer service experience
