Job Description

Distinguishing Features of the Class

Safely performs skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and the installation of electrical, electronic, and pneumatic equipment and instruments in various settings. Assists in the development of preventive maintenance and training activities. Works under the direction of a team leader or supervisor and at times may direct the work of other workers.

Acceptable Experience and Training

  • Graduation from high school, completion of a four-year apprenticeship, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience; and
  • Advanced education in fields related to the job (electrical, electronic, pneumatic systems, leadership training); and
  • Experience in reading, modifying, and developing blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics; and
  • Experience with equipment and systems similar to those of the Division.

Required Special Qualifications

  • Possession of a valid Iowa Class C - Operator driver’s license and any other applicable federal licenses and certification required to operate vehicles and equipment.

Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)

  • Safely installs, modifies, maintains, and repairs electrical, electronic and pneumatic systems such as motors, motor controls, power supplies, sensors, alarms, telephone and telemetering equipment, HVAC systems, control logics, automatic sampling equipment, metering devices, programmable logic controllers, and computer periphery equipment.
  • Develop and troubleshoot ladder diagrams, control logics in programmable logic controllers and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA).
  • Safely designs layout work on panels, sets up complex control systems, interprets, and alters drawings, wiring diagrams, and blueprints. Works from complex engineering drawings to complete projects and assigned work.
  • Maintains appropriate technical manuals, drawings, sketches, and diagrams for electronic equipment.
  • Assists the supervisor in planning safe work, plus the ordering of materials to facilitate the scheduled completion of assigned work.
  • Recommends safe revisions to Preventive, Predictive, and Corrective Maintenance Programs.
  • Safely performs other related duties as required.
