Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering, plus three (3) years experience related to the job.
• Masters degree in engineering may substitute for experience up to two (2) years.

Austin Energy is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Power System Graduate Engineer to join our Transmission, Substation, and Distribution ( TSD ) team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the reliability and power quality of our power systems by accessing, analyzing, and interpreting data from protection relays. Your work will involve fault investigations, power quality (PQ) monitoring, and addressing PQ-related issues across our TSD systems. Additionally, you will be responsible for investigating and analyzing Electromagnetic Field ( EMF ) and Radio Frequency Interference ( RFI ) generated by high-voltage transmission or distribution systems.

This position also requires collaboration with our Corporate Compliance Program ( CCP ) and other workgroups to ensure compliance with various utility regulatory requirements, including NERC , CIP , PRC , and ERCOT standards. Your technical expertise will be essential in developing written fault reports, conducting event analyses, creating procedures, and delivering technical presentations.

As partof the role, you will participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation, providing critical support for our power systems.

THIS POSITION :

• Access Protection relays to download relay data and analyze the data for Transmission, Substation, and Distribution ( TSD ) fault investigations.
• Develop, measure, and maintain Power Quality (PQ) monitoring systems for TSD systems.
• Measure and analyze PQ data to investigate PQ-based issues.
• Investigate, measure, and analyze Electromagnetic Field ( EMF ) and Radio Frequency Interference ( RFI ) generated by high voltage Transmission or Distribution systems.
• Work with Corporate Compliance Program ( CCP ) and other work groups to facilitate compliance with utility regulatory requirements ( NERC / CIP / PRC / ERCOT ).
• Develop written Fault Reports, Event Analysis, Procedures, and conduct Technical presentations.
• Work (24hours/7days) on-call rotation.

TRAVEL :

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of standards, equipment specifications, design procedures, test procedures. Performs and/or assists in power system studies such as protective coordination, fault studies, load flows, service reliability, power quality, voltage stability, etc. Prepares or assists in engineering design and develops drawings and other documents for generation, transmission, distribution, substations and SCADA / EMS . Prepares or assists in the preparation and maintenance of drawings, circuit maps, diagrams, charts, data bases and plans Provide assistance to all classes of customers, developers, and to other City Departments on technical matters relevant to electric utility services Provide technical and financial inputs for projects in electric utility budget process Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of safety procedures for electric facilities Work closely with field personnel to support project energization.
