The Grid Analytics Program Manager for Austin Energy will play a pivotal role in shaping our energy future by enabling data driven decision making through the utilization of grid edge data. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned data science practitioner who pairs an analytical mindset with problem-solving skills, leveraging a strong background in data architecture, systems integration, machine learning, and data analytics and visualization.

THIS POSITION :
  • Develops and execute comprehensive data strategies aligned with business goals
  • Oversees the architecture, integration, and availability of grid data stored across multiple platforms (cloud, hosted, on-premise)
  • Partners with Program Managers to define data requirements and align data strategies with program objectives
  • Leads a team of direct report and decentralized analysts, architects and subject matter experts from across the utility to drive innovation and instill a data-driven-decision-making mindset
  • Identifies opportunities to leverage data insights for process improvement
  • Establishes and enforce grid data governance policies and procedures for the division
  • Partners with Data Stewards to maintain data integrity and quality
  • Establishes data request pipelines and intake systems to develop and deliver upon short-medium-long term projects
  • Recommends data handling and storage solutions in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
  • Participates in cross-functional utility/City data and technology governance teams
  • Presents compelling data insights to executive leadership

WORK SCHEDULE :
  • This position has been designated as a Critical Employee position. Critical Employees are considered necessary and vital and supports activities that impact City or department operations. This work can be done while at a designated work site or while working at an alternate work location. Critical employees who are able to work at an alternative work location are required to do so. Schedules may be modified, and employees may be reassigned to another area during extraordinary situations or emergency conditions to provide essential services.


TRAVEL :
  • If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.
Pay Range
$51.07 - $67.04

  • Experience in a Program Manager role focused on data strategy and analytics, preferably in an electric utility environment

  • Experience with cloud based data tools like Microsoft Azure, etc.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

Leads planning activities to develop short- and long-term strategic plans, roadmaps, and objectives for advanced technologies and programs. Creates and manages operational budgets for short and long term technology projects and contracts. Leads cross functional teams to achieve technology initiatives. Manages existing and future contracts with vendors. Leads market research activities to identify market trends in technologies and programs. Produces periodic metrics to measure and improve: systems, projects, vendors, and service provider performance. Manages assigned matrix resources. Leverages functionality to identify operational efficiencies to improve customer satisfaction and reduce operational costs. Produces business cases, including cost versus benefit analysis and Request for Proposal (RFP’s) to support related technologies and initiatives and programs. Facilitates and leads periodic executive round table and steering committees on related technologies and programs. Facilitates internal communication, education, and training to staff, and internal and external stakeholders on technologies and programs.
