This position will oversee the Library’s Adult Literacy Program. The ideal candidate will effectively present program goals and contents to interested individuals, recruit and train volunteer tutors, provide program orientation and ongoing support to maximize adult learner success, conduct community outreach, develop and sustain partnerships, maintain program data, and prepare grant applications as required.

Schedule: The selected candidate will work 32 hours per week Monday through Friday at the Central Library.

SELECTION COMPONENTS:

  • Virtual Interview: Those candidates deemed most qualified as reflected in their online application will be invited to a virtual interview tentatively scheduled for October 1, 2024 . Passing applicants will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). The retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 11.5% of pay toward the retirement benefit.

Experience & Education and License/Certificate

A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: Two years of professional experience in one of the following: development, implementation or coordination of an adult literacy program; tutoring and/or teaching of adults; or program administration and management involving the recruitment and coordination of volunteers.

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration, Social Services, or a related field.

License/Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
