    Full-time position available with the Parks & Recreation Department, Forestry Division located at 1520 W. 9th St.
    Salary Range: $20.10-$30.64/hour
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

    Responsibilities

    • Prunes, removes, plants, trims, and cares for trees along city streets and on public grounds.
    • Uses an aerial lift truck to ascend trees and perform tree care and maintenance work.
    • May direct the work performed as instructed by a supervisor.
    • Participates in the planting, transplanting, mulching, watering, digging and other maintenance needs for tress planted in public streets and public properties.
    • Removes brush from cities properties and easements.
    • Removes dead, dying and storm damaged trees.
    • Prunes dead, broken undesirable branches, including crown thinning, training, and shaping the trees when needed.
    • Applies safety procedures while performing all trees works.
    • Learns and practices proper techniques of trimming near overhead utility lines.
    • Maintains tools and equipment and ensures that proper safety precautions are taken to protect the lives and properties of other workers and the public.
    • Responsible for proper job site setups, following all safety practices while performing tree work operations and wearing all the proper PPE
    • Performs inspections on trees and is able to identify basic tree related problems (insects, infestation, hazardous trees, and disease trees).
    • Understands and carries out specific oral and written instructions.
    • Performs related duties as required.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES 6 months of experience in tree trimming work. Must possess a valid state-issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO policies. May be required to possess a valid MO Class A, B or C CDL prior to the end of the probationary period as determined by the department. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

    Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
