Job Description

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Custodial Services and immediate supervision of the Supervising Custodian, this position performs custodial, janitorial, and maintenance duties in assigned areas and other related work as assigned.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintains neat and clean facilities for faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Removes Trash/Recycle paper, cardboard, and various materials.
  • Maintains facility safety procedures and security measures.
  • Positive interaction and communication of custodial activities.
  • Maintains and operates vacuums, wet/dry vacuums, buffers, auto scrubbers, blowers, etc. for maintaining carpets, tile floors, and exterior areas.
  • Organize custodial carts and closets.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

The role requires knowledge of standard cleaning techniques and the characteristics of various surfaces to be cleaned. The candidate must be able to lift 50 pounds and perform repeated physical activities such as bending, stooping, lifting, and reaching. This includes tasks like pushing or pulling fully loaded custodial carts, cleaning blackboards, and emptying trash cans.

Experience working in a university or large institution is preferred. Good interpersonal communication skills and excellent customer service skills are necessary to interact effectively with a diverse campus community. The candidate should be able to operate power cleaning equipment and use custodial systems for tracking work orders and communicating via two-way radios. Additionally, the ability to organize work assignments and custodial closets is important for maintaining efficiency and order.

Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Physical Summary
  • Heavy work - Job involves lifting more than 40 pounds. Approximately half of the incumbent's time will be spent walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, or climbing

Licenses / Certificates

• Valid California driver’s license.

• Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on university business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $1,840 - $2,476 per month.

Half-time, 20 hours per week, Friday - Sunday

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.

Additional Information
