    Position Information

    The County of Sonoma Human Services Department is looking for energetic individuals currently enrolled in a workforce development program to assist their Employment and Training Job Link Program!

    Please note: To be considered for this opportunity, you must be enrolled in a formal workforce development program. Examples include: Conservation Corps North Bay, Petaluma People Services Center, Goodwill Industries of the Redwood Empire, etc.

    As a Job Link Intern with the County of Sonoma, you will perform a variety of administrative and clerical activities, such as: creating, updating, and closing client case files (physical and/or electronic); creating and managing appointment spreadsheets; managing Job Link emails and interpretation requests; processing invoices and reimbursements; contacting clients quarterly for data collection purposes; entering data in program databases; answering phones and providing exceptional customer service; assisting Job Link staff with projects and client orientations; scheduling/attending meetings and taking notes; and performing other duties as assigned.

    As a Job Link Work Experience Intern, you will participate in structured on-the-job training assignments in the Employment and Training Division of the Human Services Department and will learn a wide variety of tasks, including:

    • An overview of the function and services of the Job Link program
    • Microsoft Office Suite programs, data collection, and data entry
    • Customer service, time management, and organization skills
    • Verbal and written communication skills
    • Teamwork, leadership, and professionalism

    EMPLOYMENT

    Interns are not in the classified civil service and do not have property rights to permanently allocated positions. In addition, they do not receive most employee benefits such as: long-term disability insurance coverage; accrual of vacation and sick leave; participation in the County retirement program; or eligibility to take promotional examinations. Paid interns may meet the eligibility requirements (generally worked 11 consecutive pay periods with a minimum of 440 hours and are scheduled at least 40 hours per pay period) to qualify for a County contribution toward medical coverage. Dependent coverage may also be available at employee's cost. Interns may not work in excess of 1,560 hours in a twelve month period.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education: Current enrollment as a participant in a formal workforce development program.

    Experience: None required.

    License: Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level including necessary endorsements as required by the State of California may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential functions of the position.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Some knowledge of: basic customer service skills; general goals and purposes of county and departmental programs, services, and operations; and basic occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

    Ability to: understand and follow oral and written instructions; work under supervision; learn and perform assigned tasks and routines; establish and maintain harmonious work relationships with co-workers and the general public; work in an efficient and safe manner .

    A background investigation is required prior to employment.
