The City of Tacoma is accepting applications for a Regulatory Compliance Technician, Senior for the Environmental Services Department, Science and Engineering Division. The Regulatory Compliance Technician, Senior will be responsible to operate as a field lead for the flow metering and sampling of the City's sanitary and surface water conveyance systems, soils, sediments, and groundwater in compliance with federal and state regulations. Much of this work is done in accordance with the City's NPDES Phase I Stormwater Permit, NPDES Wastewater Discharge Permit, and Superfund Consent Decrees (Thea Foss, Landfill). Work is also driven by the City's engineers need for precipitation, flow and hydraulic modeling data; inflow and infiltration investigation; utility billing and pollution source investigations. This position provides leadership for Regulatory Compliance Technicians.

This is a position that significantly contributes to Environmental Services’ mission to provide sustainable and cost-effective management services to foster a healthy, sustainable and more livable community by protecting and restoring our environment.

This unique position will be embedded and located with the Environmental Programs team at the Center for Urban Waters, to allow for collaboration and interaction with the Science and Engineering’s Asset Management and Capital Delivery team, Construction Management staff, and other city-wide engineering and construction and management work groups. Co-location will enhance collaboration and interaction for geological, hydrogeological, and environmental consultation as needed. This position also allows for a flexible work schedule or part-time teleworking.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION *
High School Diploma or GED

MINIMUM EDUCATION*
3 years of environmental sampling or environmental field work

*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education

DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science and one year of environmental sampling or environmental field work, OR
Associate degree in Environmental Science and two year of environmental sampling or environmental field work.

LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER LEGAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Washington State Driver’s License at time of appointment with maintenance thereafter.
