The City of Tacoma’s Environmental Services Department has an exciting opportunity for an Business Systems Analyst to join the Asset Management and Technology Services Division. This Division is responsible for asset management related activities for the collection systems, pump stations, and the treatment plants. In addition, the group is responsible for the development of software applications to support the business needs of work groups throughout the Environmental Services Department. This position will play a vital role in managing various technology projects for the Department including user requirements gathering, alternatives analyses, reporting development, and end user training.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Process Analysis: Document existing processes and identify opportunities for improvement. Research and evaluate available technologies to assist with process improvements.
  • Solution Development: Design, develop and maintain less complex databases. Work may include solutions using the O365 platform, SmartSheet, or other technologies.
  • Project Management: Serve as a project manager on various technology projects for the Department. Work includes scope development with end users, schedule development and oversight, budget development and tracking, user training, and vendor coordination.
  • Reporting: Extract data from various data systems and develop reports for users based on end user requirements.
  • Collaborate: Contribute your ideas to the team. Present results and recommendations to peers and management. Participate in discussions in regional forums.


Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION*
Bachelor's degree in public or business administration, information technology or directly related field.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE*
4-years of progressively responsible analytical and/or functional analyst, user support or database maintenance work in area related to assignment.

*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong investigative and exploratory skills
  • Ability to present technical information clearly and concisely
  • Previous experience successfully providing project management support for technology projects
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Experience with SharePoint, Smartsheet, and other less complex data management solutions
  • Experience developing reports
  • Experience with SAP
