Job Description

Job Summary

Under the direction of the appropriate administrator, the night trades manager will oversee nighttime crews, including skilled trades employees and other assigned teams. This role involves managing the maintenance and repair activities for the university's physical plant, encompassing facilities, buildings, and utilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for operational control, direction, and decision making, and for management of the night activities and services assigned: Work with computerized maintenance system (IWMS) to track labor and other resources in these shops.
  • Establish procedures for materials acquisition, communications with campus department/facility users, and facilities management, etc: Point of contact for University Police during normally scheduled work shift.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse constituencies. Ability to and experience formulating and planning budgets, along with managing resources efficiently. Technical expertise in building maintenance, with solid knowledge of Cal OSHA or OSHA safety requirements, i.e. chemical safety, material Safety Data Sheets, personal protective equipment, back safety, CPR/First Aid, safe equipment operations. Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of administration, faculty and staff including Facilities Management management/supervisory group. Ability to work effectively in a service environment subject to frequently changing priorities. Knowledge and experience providing customer service, preferably in a large, institutional setting.

Demonstrated experience in leading a sizeable team, effectively communicating work assignments, and motivating employees. Proficiency in using computers and various software packages including word processing, spreadsheets, automated maintenance management systems, electronic mail), preferably a Windows environment with Microsoft Office software. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to write clear, concise, and comprehensive reports.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

•Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of one year of related experience required.

•Management experience (planning, staffing, and operations) is required.

• Experience in labor relations, ability to manage effectively in a bargaining unit environment, knowledge of conflict resolutions and grievance administration.

•Working hours: Sunday thru Thursday 9p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

Physical Summary

Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

Compensation

CSU MPP Compensation Summary Range: The MPP Comp Summary Range for this position is $7,589 - $11,384 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
