Classification Salary Range: $3,688 - $6,122 per month

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $4,000 - $4,167 per month.

The final salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.

About the Department/Position:

Under the general supervision of Manager, Accounts Payable and Travel, the Accounts Payable Specialist is responsible for processing vendor payments for the University and for Associated Students, Inc., California State University, Dominguez Hills (ASI). The payment functions include full cycle accounts payable duties requiring knowledge of financial record-keeping methods, procedures and practices. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that payments made are in compliance with CSU and campus policies. The incumbent provides customer service to campus AP stakeholders, as well as employees from auxiliary organizations, and vendors of the University.

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Full Cycle Accounts Payable
  • Audit supplier invoices for compliance with laws, policies, and procedures; follow up on errors or missing documentation; research any outstanding (unpaid) balances.
  • Process purchase orders invoices while ensuring proper matching and reconcile discrepancies between PO vs. invoice.
  • Process direct pay invoices, employee reimbursements, and non-student refunds ensuring compliance to CSU and CSUDH policies and procedures
  • Ensure all business transactions are reasonable, appropriate, and consistent with policy and procedures.
  • Obtain proper approvals and authorization for invoice payments.
  • Analysis of sales tax and computation of use tax.
  • Create vouchers into an automated AP System on a timely basis while ensuring a high level of accuracy.
  • Audit data entry of other AP Technicians.
  • Provide customer service to CSUDH Accounts Payable Stakeholders
  • Reconcile Reports

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to three years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience that has provided the knowledge and abilities to perform stated duties.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of financial record-keeping, mathematical and general office methods, procedures, and practices.
  • Ability to review financial documents for accuracy, completeness, validity, and adherence to standards; compute and post numbers rapidly and accurately; maintain files and records; identity, trace, and correct errors; follow directions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; exercise tact, courtesy, alertness, and good judgment in responding to others; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
  • Ability to apply accounting procedures and practices to the analysis of basic accounting problems; analyze and interpret accounting data work independently and make sound decisions and recommendations regarding accounting activities.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree in accounting, business or related field is preferred and four years experience in Accounts Payable.
  • Five years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience that has provided the knowledge and abilities to perform stated responsibilities.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft 9.2 or higher in the Accounts Payable module or other automated Accounts Payable system.
  • CSU or governmental accounting experience.
  • Use of various software applications, including PeopleSoft, Excel, Word, Outlook, Zoom, OnBase, Concur, Adobe Acrobat DC, etc.
