Job Classification: SSP II

Anticipated Hiring Amount: $4,841 - $5,200 per month

Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm

THE DEPARTMENT

The College of Professional and Global Education supports Cal Poly Pomona’s international initiatives by leading student and faculty mobility including Study Abroad and Exchange Programs and the International Student and Scholar Services, which maintains the university’s Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) compliance. CPGE advances global citizenship, cultural competencies, and diversity of the university campus through its programs. The position reports to the International Student and Scholar Services Office Associate Director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as the Designated School Official (DSO). Conduct federally mandated government reporting: compile F-1 student data to ensure timely institutional reporting. Independently implement, monitor, and evaluate Terra Dotta software. Gather and input data to the databases and submit batch daily. Troubleshoot and reconcile data discrepancies in PeopleSoft, SEVIS and Terra Dotta. Monitor alerts and lists, determine appropriate action for each record. Create, print, distribute I-20 forms.
  • Independently provides detailed and accurate advising to international students in relation to federal regulations governing the F-1 Visa and campus policy. Processes student requests and communication in Terra Dotta. Updates records and distributes updated I-20s, letters as requested, and other means of support. Reviews and recommends eligibility for employment authorization, on-campus and off-campus Curricular Practical Training, Optional Practical Training, Severe Economic Hardship. Communicates with students via phone, email, and in-person regarding deadlines, polices, requirements, activities. Processes student holds. Ensures compliance with health insurance enrollment.
  • Assists with and contributes to the development and administrative department procedures. Assists with special assignments. Participation in the successful organization of events for and communication to students. Performs other related duties as needed.
  • Works with other departments regarding international student complex academic and other issues. Participates in CPGE events and programs.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.
  • Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.
  • Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office.


Preferred Qualifications
  • One year experience with F-1 Immigration Regulations advising, knowledge of SEVIS reporting requirements, knowledge of FERPA regulations.
  • Prefer two years student advising experience and one year immigration advising. Prefer PeopleSoft experience.
  • Experience with desktop computer,Terra Dotta, SEVIS, MicroSoft Office, Adobe, other software.

The classification salary range for this position according to the respective skill level is minimum $4,841 and maximum $6,884 per month.
