    Job Summary

    The Mohave County Public Health Department - Environmental Health Division, is currently recruiting for an Environmental Health Program Coordinator in Kingman, AZ.

    *The typical hiring salary is $23.26 - $28.61 - DOQ*

    Under general supervision, oversees, manages, coordinates, and conducts the day to day operations of the Environmental Health Vector Control and Nuisance Abatement Program and the State of Arizona Smoke Free Program.

    REPORTS TO
    Work is performed independently under general direction of a higher level of authority.

    SUPERVISION EXERCISED
    May exercise technical and limited logistical supervision of environmental health technicians as assigned.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Create and maintain a supportive work environment with other departments and community programs, Public Health divisions, and Public Health leadership.
    As Assigned to Vector and Nuisance Abatement Program:
    • Respond to all vector and nuisance related complaints from the public, including mosquitos, flies, pigeons, rodents, and bees.
    • Conduct bi-monthly monitoring and trapping of mosquitos.
    • Count and determine species of mosquitos.
    • Conduct testing for West Nile virus or send out for analysis, when appropriate, for other potential diseases.
    • Create bi-monthly reports on results.
    • Recommend treatments when necessary to mitigate vector or nuisance species based on established protocols.
    As Assigned to Smoke-Free Arizona Program:
    • Respond to all smoke-free citizen complaints of public establishments.
    • Coordinate inspection and educational activities with other County departments and government agencies.
    • Develop bi-annual reports for State reporting requirements.
    • Secures complaints with pertinent regulations by promotion, education, and enforcement of Environmental Health rules and regulations.
    • Conducts field and office training and instruction sessions to business owners on the Smoke-Free Arizona Act.
    • Apply basic principles, practices, techniques, teaching, and communication methods related to the age, gender, race/ethnicity, educational level, and socioeconomic status of community members.
    • Communicate and act in a culturally competent and professional manner maintaining cooperative relationships with community members, co-workers, and work contacts.
    SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS
    • Performs related work as required.
    • Performs special assignment as requested.
    • Exercise regular and predictable attendance and punctuality in accordance with Mohave County Personnel Policies and Procedures.


    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry, Public Health, or other related field.
    • Must obtain and maintain an Arizona State Pesticide Applicator License within six (6) months of appointment to the position.
    • OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.

    SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENT
    • Must pass drug screen post offer.
    • Provide acceptable driving history at no cost to the County.
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license for operation of motor vehicles on Arizona roads at the start of employment and maintain said license while employed in this position.


    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    Knowledge of:
    • Relevant Federal, State and County codes, laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to environmental health and pesticide application.
    • The principles, practices and techniques of environmental health inspections, education, compliance, and enforcement.
    • Biological and physical science applicable to environmental health and safety.
    • General principles and application of microbiology as it relates to disease transmission.
    • General principles and application of chemistry as it relates to hazardous materials.
    Ability to:
    • Learn to interpret and apply Federal, State and Local laws, codes, and regulations as they relate to the administration of public health.
    • Interpret technical information encountered in the performance of responsibilities.
    • Secure facts, document information, evaluate data and draw valid conclusions.
    • Identify unsanitary, unsafe or hazardous conditions of property and premises.
    • Analyze situations accurately and take or recommend effective action.
    • Learn safe handling and storage techniques of pesticides, chemicals and formulated or naturally occurring hazardous materials or items.
    • Diplomatically and tactfully resolve nonconforming conditions and code and ordinance violations.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associate personnel, the general public and County and State departments and agencies.
    • Deal tactfully and diplomatically in adverse situations.
    • Maintain records, prepare written reports, and presentations.
    • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
    • Obtain public cooperation in establishment and maintenance of reasonable public and environmental health standards for public health and safety.
    • Comply with Mohave County Personnel Policies and Procedures and Department Regulations.
    • Perform the essential functions of the job specifications with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Las Vegas is only 90 minutes from Kingman with a bypass to tour the historic Hoover Dam.
