The City of Burlingame is accepting applications for the position of part-time (casual) Building Attendant

This position is required to work daytime hours; however, shifts may also include occasional weekday evenings and weekends.

Ideal Candidate

DEFINITION

As a Building Attendant, you will be responsible for the daily upkeep and maintenance of the Burlingame Community Center, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all occupants. This role requires a hands-on individual with excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills.

Hours (6-20 hours per week)

Hours depend on rentals and special events.
  • Monday - Thursday 7:30 am - 9:15 pm
  • Friday - Saturday 7:30 am - 5:30 pm

Shifts depends on special events and rentals.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Open, close and secure recreation facilities.
  • Sets up and tear down tables and chairs in meeting rooms and keep inventory of meeting room equipment.
  • Provide a variety of office related functions including program registration, answering public inquiries both in person and on the phone.
  • Perform light maintenance to maintain equipment, rooms and the overall appearance of the building.
  • Clean and sanitize common areas, restrooms, offices, and other facilities as needed. This includes dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and waste disposal.
  • Provide excellent service to renters, instructors, and visitors. Assist with inquiries and address concerns in a courteous and professional manner.

Knowledge of:
  • Operation of a recreation facility
  • Department rules and policies.
  • Availability and schedule of current classes.
  • On-line registration.
  • General knowledge of OSHA cleaning standards for scheduled cleaning and disinfecting areas within the building.
  • Basic mathematical functions.

Ability to:
  • Work independently.
  • Learn quickly.
  • Perform heavy manual labor.
  • Work extremely well with others including staff, contractors, general contractors and the public.
  • Explain policies and procedures clearly and concisely.
  • Analyze minor situations and adopt effective course of action.
  • Read, write and understand English.
  • Use cleaning materials and equipment with safety and efficiency.

Skills: Operate basic office equipment including copy machine, calculator and personal computer and keyboarding skills. Ability to use cleaning material and equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Sufficient experience and education to perform the above duties.

Benefits

Healthy Workplaces/Healthy Families Act: California Paid Sick Leave Benefit, as amended effective 1/1/2024. This benefit accrues at the rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked and is available after 90 days of employment. The maximum use of paid sick leave is 40 hours in a one-year period. There is no cash value associated with benefit.

No other benefits are offered. This position is at will and is not part of the City's Civil Service System. There is no guarantee of hours and employment may end at any time.
