Job Description

Job Summary
Performs a broad range of professional accounting duties for Bryan Texas Utilities ( BTU ) such as account reconciliation, preparation and analysis of accounting reports and schedules, preparation of journal entries, preparation and analysis of financial reports, budget analysis, and assists management as needed.
Essential Job Functions
  • Performs accounting functions in accordance with GAAP and GASB guidelines as applicable and in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Compiles and prepares various reports as required, including monthly financial reports and the quarterly external reports.
  • Ensures the accuracy of financial reports produced by the department.
  • Performs reconciliation of bank accounts and allocations of various expenditures and administrative charges.
  • Prepares accounting entries to record various revenues, expenditures, accounts receivable and payable; prepares associated reconciliation.
  • Analyzes accounts and prepares journal entries for discrepancies.
  • Ensures compliance with City policies, State and Federal regulations, reporting requirements, etc.
  • Researches and prepares reports on accounting related subjects, as assigned.
  • Documents accounting policies and procedures; assists with reviewing existing accounting procedures and recommends changes as needed.
  • Responds to accounting inquiries, answering questions and offering assistance as needed in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates financial and accounting matters with BTU Business Units and other departments as needed.
  • Interfaces with external auditors and prepares assigned schedules.
  • Supports the budgeting process of outside departments.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Responds regularly and promptly to work.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree with significant coursework in accounting, finance, or a similar field of study plus at least two (2) years of directly related experience; OR a Bachelor’s degree with significant coursework as previously listed plus at least four (4) years of directly related experience.
  • Prior experience in utility accounting is preferred.

Equivalent combinations of education, experience, certification, and training may be considered.

Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements
  • Texas Class C driver’s license with a good driving record as measured by the City’s evaluation system.
  • CPA Certification is preferred.
