Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Lead Tech Consultant, the AV & Technology Integration (AVTI) Specialist is responsible for the design, documentation, build, and execution of technology integration in a various space, including computer labs, smart classrooms, active-learning rooms, and conference rooms. The incumbent provides ongoing support and maintenance for classroom technology and stays current with classroom technologies and methods to provide best practices while leveraging technology to enhance the learning experience. The incumbent will apply this knowledge to new designs and road maps. Additionally, the incumbent will facilitate training for classroom AV technology as requested and create, organize, and compile documentation relating to each classroom integration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analysis, Design, and Documentation: Design AVTI configurations that meet the needs of the learning environment.
  • Audio/Video & Technology Integration: Perform proper maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Extended Reality (XR) Technology Research and Development: Research and Develop new XR technologies for use in higher education. This could involve setting up an environment with different XR devices, working with developers to create new software, or conducting experiments to test the effectiveness of different XR technologies.
  • Training, Support, and Maintenance: Provide support for video conferencing utilizing Zoom, MS Teams, and conference room systems. This includes troubleshooting problems with video conferencing, and making sure that systems are up and running for scheduled meetings.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Possess an excellent knowledge of computer technology. Ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex computer systems. Hardware/software migrations, deployments, upgrades, and updates. Perform system, database, and network maintenance tasks. Have knowledge of data and file structures, database systems and related utilities, and operating systems. Have knowledge of and the ability to evaluate software, hardware, and multimedia applications. This includes understanding the different types of AVTI and XR technologies, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of different software and hardware platforms. Knowledge of 3D/2D Modeling (Visio, SketchUp, AutoCAD).

Skilled in management of complex technical projects. Plan schedules accordingly. Solve a wide range of problems and develop practicable and thorough solutions. Use effective communication and listening skills. Communicate technical information to technically diverse audiences in a clear and concise manner. Train others in complex tasks and technical processes in a clear and simple manner. Take appropriate action in response to system failures or inaccessibility. Able to build relationships with stakeholders. Independently take the lead on assigned projects from beginning to completion. Utilize available resources appropriately. Meet deadlines. Keep the IT team informed.

Education and Experience
  • Equivalent to an associate degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field and one year of related experience required.

Preferred:
  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in AV and technology integration.
  • Strong understanding of classroom technologies and methods.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on university business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

Physical Summary

Light work - Job involves some lifting of medium weight objects (10-20 pounds) and/or 10% - 20% of the job involves standing or walking.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $3,806 - $5,600 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $3,806 - $7,577 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for three years with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
