Job Summary

To assist the athletic training staff in providing the best possible medical care for the student-athletes and visiting athletic teams. Including care, prevention, and rehabilitation of injuries to our student athletes without regard to race, creed, color, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender. Emphasis is placed on prevention such as taping, protective equipment, flexibility training. Additionally, the incumbent will provide a professional clinical setting for Long Beach State students interested in pursuing a career in athletic training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cover home events (games and practices) and travel with assigned team(s).
  • Injury evaluation, treatment, and first-aid care.
  • Plan and implement rehabilitation programs for serious injuries or post-surgical conditions. Keep and maintain medical records for each athlete or sport, including date of injury, evaluation of injury, treatment or rehabilitation protocol and progress report.
  • Administrative duties as assigned by Head Athletic Trainer - in charge of inventory records, student athlete physicals, or insurance processing.
  • Assist in supervision of athletic training students in the training room and at the practice or competition facility.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Computer skills: MS Office and medical tracking software. Knowledge of physical therapy modalities and treatment protocols to provide a standardized care for the student-athlete.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

• A bachelor’s degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology, or related field of study is required.

• Master's degree in athletic training or a related field preferred.

Physical Summary

  • Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.


Licenses / Certificates

• Athletic training certification in good standing by the National Athletic Trainers Association - Board of Certification.

• CPR/AED certification.

• First Aid certification.

• Valid California driver's license required to accommodate the need for additional drivers during team travel and to transport student-athletes to doctor appointments.

Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on university business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

Compensation

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,012 - $7,743 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Time Base

Full-time temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
