Full-time position available with the Public Works Department, Transportation Division located at 414 East 12th Street
Salary Range: $5,794-$8,833/month
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

The Lead Planner position is responsible for administrative and professional work for the Department's Multimodal program with emphasis on bicycle, pedestrian, safety, and micro mobility solutions.
  • Administers City policy, or supervises and supports design, long range planning, community engagement, and other special program(s) or research and information initiatives.
  • Gathers, analyzes, and presents social, economic, safety and transportation data necessary for the development and implementation of current City transportation projects, including Vision Zero, protected bicycle lane facilities, and traffic calming initiatives, as well as meeting and consulting with other governmental officials and the general public on matters pertaining to the City's multimodal transportation efforts.
  • Performs, coordinates and/or supervises professional, technical, and clerical work for current and advanced transportation projects and initiatives and assembles, analyzes, and interprets social, economic, transportation, safety, and other data for planning projects.
  • Acts as technical advisor to other Multimodal colleagues and personnel in performing research, planning and technical analysis to solve difficult assignments using GIS and other analytical tools such as PowerBI, AutoCAD and similar.
  • Prepares, coordinates, and delivers community presentations as well as staff reports and recommendations for public meetings using Microsoft Office, Adobe, Bluebeam and similar.
  • Assists in preparing and reviewing budget information, training, and in establishing departmental policies.
  • Performs related duties as required.



Qualifications

REQUIRES an accredited Master's degree in planning and 2 years of professional experience in city, regional, or urban planning work; OR an accredited Bachelor's degree in one of the social sciences, engineering, city planning, landscape architecture or architecture and 4 years of professional experience in city, regional, or urban planning work including 2 years at the level of the City's Planner. Preference given to those individuals with an AICP certification.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
