    Position Summary

    The Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs is the university's Chief Academic Officer and Senior Vice President. The Provost/SVPAA provides intellectual and academic leadership for the University’s educational mission. The responsibilities include but are not limited to overseeing all areas of Academic Affairs currently comprised of seven academic colleges, Continuing Education, Graduate Education, Undergraduate Education, Library, Office of the Provost, and other programs and centers. The position is responsible for providing oversight and management of the Academic Affairs complex budget, personnel programs, faculty affairs, strategic planning, and implementation. The incumbent will provide leadership in the planning, development, assessment of academic programs and oversight of all academic and research initiatives at the university.

    The Provost/SVPAA oversees and develops strategic vision and plans for the Division of Academic Affairs through collaborative and inclusive leadership. The incumbent is responsible for building institutional capacity for multi-year planning while creating clear and transparent processes that align strategic, academic, and operational planning, resource allocation functions, and managing a complex budget of over $130 million.

    The Provost/SVPAA reports directly to the President and collaborates with other vice presidents and members of the President’s Cabinet in a team-oriented environment. The Provost/SVPAA will work closely with the deans of the academic colleges, Continuing Education, Graduate Education, Undergraduate Education, and the Library; and the Chair of the Faculty Senate on matters of educational policy and academic programs. The Provost/SVPAA chairs and engages with major university-wide groups, working with the community, faculty, administration, staff, students, and alumni.

    FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation)

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $25,000 per month-$27,500 per month

    CSU Classification Salary Range: $9,625 per month - $30,896 per month

    Academic Affairs provides leadership to the academic and educational activity of the University, including: the seven Academic Colleges, University Library, and the College of Continuing Education.

    Required Qualifications

    Education

    1. An earned doctorate or a terminal degree from an accredited university;

    Experience

    2. The qualifications for an appointment as a full professor, including a proven record of achievement as a teacher and scholar;

    3. Progressive record of extensive and successful administrative experience, including experience at a large comprehensive university at the level of dean, associate provost, provost, or a similar position;

    4. Experience in budget management and resource allocation within a complex organizational structure;

    5. Experience in faculty recruitment, development, and retention strategies, with a focus on fostering a diverse and inclusive academic community;

    6. Experience with retention, tenure, and promotion process and/or advanced professional development process;

    7. Demonstrated track record in supporting student success strategies that foster a holistic student-centered learning environment, increase retention and graduation rates, and address issues of access, equity, diversity, and inclusion;

    8. Proven track record of successful collaboration in a shared governance environment, including experience within a unionized environment or comparable, to advance institutional goals and priorities.

    9. Experience working with diverse students from underrepresented groups, particularly at urban public and Minority Serving Institutions;

    10. Engagement with a diverse array of academic disciplines represented within Academic Affairs;

    11. Proven track record supporting and promoting the scholarly and creative activities of faculty and students;

    Knowledge

    12. Comprehensive understanding of higher education trends, challenges, and best practices;

    13. Knowledge of accreditation standards, compliance requirements, and regulatory frameworks relevant to academic programs and institutional operations;

    14. Knowledge of and understanding of differences in disciplines within various colleges and Academic Affairs;

    15. Ability to promote interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary learning experiences, student research and creative activity;

    16. Proficiency in budgetary principles and financial management practices, including budget forecasting, funding models, revenue, and cost containment strategies; capacity to advocate for equitable resource allocation and support services tailored to the diverse needs of each college or area within Academic Affairs;

    17. Proficiency with data-driven decision-making processes and utilizing institutional data to inform strategic planning, policy development, and academic programs centered on student success;

    18. Knowledge and ability to serve as a primary liaison with the Faculty Senate and to support strong shared governance practices and relationships, including the faculty's role in academic decision-making processes;

    Preferred Qualifications

    29. Experience with the accreditation process and/or discipline-specific accreditation;

    30. Knowledge of a university within a public regional comprehensive system, structure, values, mission, and strategic priorities.
