Job Summary

Under the leadership of the Director of Risk Management and Administrative Services, the Risk Specialist serves SBS and Risk Management by independently performing varied and specialized technical, administrative, and analytical duties and serves as a program administrator. Work output is reviewed against goals and involves independently managing, planning, performing research, and participating in the development, alteration, implementation, and evaluation of the Risk Management major responsibility areas, including but not limited to: Enterprise Risk Management, Youth Protection Program, Driver Safety Program, the Campus Administrative Policies (CAP) Program, the Records Retention Program, CSU and campus specific insurance programs, Student Assistants, and other duties as assigned.

Department Summary

Strategic Business Services (SBS) is responsible for managing approximately $200 million in annual University purchasing and contracting. Risk Management, under the umbrella of the Strategic Business Services department, is charged with protecting and conserving the human, property, and financial resources of the University. Along with all the subunits of the Administration and Finance Division, it is Risk Management’s purpose to support and advance the University’s academic mission with a high level of integrity and financial responsibility by assisting in the coordination of the research, development, evaluation, implementation, training, and support of the enterprise risk management program to manage campus exposures to hazard, operating, strategic, reputational, compliance, and financial risk.

Key Qualifications

1. Ability to anticipate problems and address them proactively. Demonstrated experience in problem-solving and accomplishment of programmatic goals and objectives.
2. Ability to make independent decisions and exercise sound judgment.
3. Expertise in investigating and analyzing problems, determining possible solutions, and recommending viable solutions for a given situation.
4. Demonstrated client service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
5. Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy while setting own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.

Education and Experience
  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university. Minimum three years of technical experience. A graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Salary and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Range: $63,000 - $75,000 Per Year

Classification Range: $52,548 - $95,064 Per Year
