    The Position

    THIS IS AN UNCLASSIFIED, NON-CIVIL SERVICE, HOURLY POSITION WITH NO MEDICAL, DENTAL OR ACCRUED LEAVE BENEFITS, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF AB1522 - HEALTHY WORKPLACE HEALTHY FAMILY ACT.

    Under general supervision, these positions are responsible for supervising and directing up to ten youth apprentice(14-24 years of age) performing hillside brush clearance, weed abatement, landscaping, debris clearance and other general labor tasks on private and public property.

    Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:
    Ensures Department services are provided with exceptional customer service and the highest level of ethical standards.

    Performs hillside brush clearance, weed abatement, landscaping, debris clearance and other general labor tasks on private and public property.

    May also perform general office work.

    Uses and/or supervises the use of power and hand tools; the hauling and dumping of debris; and the maintenance of tools and equipment.

    Works weekday, evening and weekend hours.

    Transports youth apprentice in City vehicles; facilitates staff meetings; prepares and reports time sheets and other paperwork.

    Evaluates subordinate staff; performs other related duties as required.

    Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in a safe efficient manner.

    Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires.

    Minimum Requirements

    Experience
    One year of recent supervisory experience, preferably in the supervision of youth.

    Education/Training
    Graduation from high school or attainment of GED or CHSPE certificate and completion of 30 semester units of college work.

    License(s)/Certification(s)
    Valid Class C California driver's license.
    Must obtain CPR Certification within six months of employment.

    Desired Qualifications
    Basic First Aid and CPR Certification; Valid California Commercial Drivers License, Class B.

    Selection Process

    ORAL INTERVIEW: (Weight of 100%) To evaluate the applicant's experience, education, and general background for the position.

    TIME AND PLACE OF THE EXAMINATION WILL BE ANNOUNCED. Any evaluation will be based on the candidate's education and experience as related to the position. Any examination will be to evaluate the candidate's education, experience, knowledge and skills for the position. The selected candidate will be subjected to a background check including Livescan fingerprinting. The City of Glendale reserves the right to modify the above stated examination components and/or weights. Should this be necessary, the candidates will be notified of the specific examination components and weights prior to the administration of any examination.     All hourly employees will be enrolled in the Public Agency Retirement System - Alternate Retirement System (PARS-ARS). Hourly employees may also participate in the Flexible Benefit Plan.
