Major Duties

Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Life and Leadership, the Activities Coordinator for Campus and Community Engagement is responsible for ensuring student engagement in service opportunities and assisting campus and community members with appropriate use of university grounds and facilities. The incumbent supports the department’s volunteer program, Unified We Serve, by working with department staff, campus, and community partners to implement program events, develop a robust volunteer management process, and maintain a database of university and community-based volunteer activities.
  • Establishes and maintains community partnerships with area non-profits and public agencies to promote student volunteerism in the surrounding community; collaborates with department staff, university partners, and community-based organizations to identify and implement volunteer activities.
  • Provides event planning training and resources to assist students, faculty, and staff with implementing minor and major events; provides resources and information to educate the campus on freedom of expression and campus policy for student and non-student-led campus activities and events.
  • Implements a volunteer management process to recruit, train, and retain student volunteers for department activities and programs
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Equivalent to graduating from a four-year college or university in a job-related field.
  • Equivalent to two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field.
  • At least one year of professional work experience related to civic engagement, volunteerism, service, involvement, student leadership development, and/or student organizations is preferred.
  • A Master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
  • Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Foundational knowledge of student development theories, principles and practices
  • Ability to train, plan and lead the work of student assistants
  • Ability to apply student affairs principles and practices to implement assigned programs and services
  • Ability to interpret and apply various policy, procedures, and guidelines
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to provide clear and concise information and apply active listening skills.
  • Effective public speaking skills. Demonstrated experience preparing and facilitating trainings, presentations, workshops, meetings, etc.
  • Ability to gather, interpret and evaluate information to make informed decisions consistent with existing policy, procedure, and directives. The ability to accurately summarize and present recommendations.
  • Strong organizational skills. Ability to manage competing priorities and apply effective time management skills, to meet short and long-term goals.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and evaluating mid to large-scale events within the community and/or at a college or university.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with students, staff, faculty, administrators, and the public. A positive and respectful attitude. Quality customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in using PC computers utilizing programs such as Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, etc.). Ability to use social media, video conferencing software, cloud-based software programs, etc.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.


Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver, and more.
  • Classification: Student Services Professional II / 3082 / 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RATE: $4,841 per month. The salary range for this classification is: $4,841 - $6,884 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; may include evenings and weekends.
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
  • The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
