Job Description

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Clark County District Attorney's Office is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Data Base Administrator I/II position. Candidates must be able to perform data base development, implementation, maintenance support and related staff training of a routine to complex nature in support of County administrative and business services for centralized and distributed network database applications.

Candidates must have strong MS SQL database administration, performance tuning, disaster recovery and database security skills. Additionally, candidates must be proficient in performing ETL operations utilizing SSIS, as well as in the creation of SSRS reports. MS SQL Azure skills and data base design skills are desirable.

Data Base Administrator I: $31.79 - $49.33 Hourly
Data Base Administrator II: $34.35 - $53.28 Hourly


The Data Base Administrator I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the training program the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Data Base Administrator II.

This is an open and continuous recruitment, scheduling dates will vary depending on when the application was received and reviewed by Human Resources.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

Data Base Administrator I - Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a closely related field AND two (2) years of full-time systems analysis and/or applications programming experience, preferably in a large-scale computer system environment.

Data Base Administrator II - In addition to the above: Minimum of one (1) year of full-time professional level experience in complex data base definition and installation in a large-scale computer system environment.

Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Plans, prepares, defines, structures, develops and implements data base systems. Defines and implements interfaces to insure that various applications and user-installed or vendor-developed systems interact with the required data base systems. Tests, troubleshoots, refines and documents systems; applies quality assurance and security standards to ensure against the loss of data and a minimal interruption of usage in the event of equipment failure. Plans and develops test data to validate new or modified data base applications; monitors system performance by the use of appropriate utilities, online capabilities and batch reports. Confers with programmer/analyst and customer staff to define functional requirements, perform data modeling and implement final products; resolves errors and interface problems and ensures integrated systems in accordance with development standards. Writes program documentation and user procedures and instructions and assists user departments and staff in implementing new or modified data base applications; tracks and evaluates project and systems progress. Confers with customer staff regarding assigned functional program areas; serves on a variety of committees, project teams and task forces and provides "help desk" support, as assigned. Maintains records and prepares periodic and special reports of work performed. Maintains current knowledge of technology and data base applications and systems. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Uses standard office equipment in the course of the work; may drive a County motor vehicle or be able to arrange for appropriate transportation between various work sites.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for an extended period of time, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
