Cover Letter

After reading about the City of Fresno and its positions available, I am excited for the potential of working with the City. I believe it offers opportunities for me to foster others' professional development, as well as challenges me to continue growing my skills as a Manager.

I have been working in program management and employee relations, most recently as a Director of Programs with Jumpstart for Young Children. With over 20 years of service with Jumpstart, I have acquired the skills necessary to maintain strong partnerships with Preschool Partners, Higher Education Partners, and Community Partners. Working with Jumpstart’s partners in Fresno, I dedicated myself to maintaining a high quality site, supporting program staff, preschool partners, and most importantly, the college students that make up our Corps. I am also proud to be seen as a resource for my colleagues at partner universities across Jumpstart’s national network.

Highlights of my experience include:

  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with Preschool Partners, including Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission’s (Fresno EOC) Head Start Centers, Fresno State’s Programs for Children, and Fresno Unified School District (FUSD) Early Learning Centers.
  • Developing and delivering professional development opportunities for Preschool Teachers that introduce them to the Jumpstart program and highlight the benefits of Jumpstart tutors’ service to the preschool children in their classrooms. This included support for teachers to understand their roles as mentors for Jumpstart tutors, communicating Jumpstart services to families in their classroom, and becoming true partners in developing young children’s skills. I provided trainings and support for partner teachers virtually and in-person, delivering it in a format that respected their time.
  • Networking and Relationship management with stakeholders from various professional backgrounds, including board members, business owners, community and academic leaders, families, and volunteers. This provides many opportunities to communicate my program’s mission, activities, updates to program implementation, facilitate and mediate to reach solutions and achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Experience utilizing excellent written and verbal communication skills to gather data and write reports and provide professional presentations to a variety of partners, including teachers, alumni, and current students. I especially valued opportunities to problem-solve alongside teachers and students, working towards continuous improvement of the Jumpstart program.

Additionally, I am reliable, motivated, provide great attention to detail, and able to work independently and under pressure to complete projects on schedule. My computer proficiency includes knowledge of Windows and Mac operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Canva, candidate relationship management (CRM) software, and applicant tracking systems. I am adept at learning any new software that may be required for the position.

Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to further discussing my qualifications and interest in supporting IXL Learning in this position.
