    FACULTY EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

    DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY

    Part-Time Lecturer Pool Position

    POSITION AVAILABLE: One or more temporary, part-time lecturers for a pool from which instructors will be considered for appointments as they become available for Fall Semester 2024, and/or Spring Semester 2025.

    THE DEPARTMENT: The History Department offers a range of lower- and upper-division undergraduate courses to majors pursuing the BA in History, General Education students, prospective middle and high school teachers in the Single Subject Matter Preparation Program in Social Science, and Public History Certificate students. The department also offers an MA degree program, in which lecturers holding the Ph.D. occasionally teach reading seminars in their specialties.

    DUTIES OF THE POSITION: Teaching assignments may be in several programs or levels, including, for example, lower-division U.S. and world history courses; upper-division courses in diverse fields connected to three major degree concentrations (Social Justice and Citizenships, Sustainability and Modernization, and Migration and Globalization); applied fields in digital humanities, teaching, and public history; and specialized lab classes emphasizing career preparation. High-impact pedagogies and applied history or career emphases are desired, along with inclusive content and teaching that is reflective of East Bay’s student demographics. Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online. The policy and expectation of the California State University is that all faculty members will perform all of their duties within the state of California.

    RANK AND SALARY: Lecturer. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Position appointment is subject to budgetary authorization.

    The salary schedule information for the Lecturer - Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

    Lecturer AY (Range 2) - $5,507 - $6,677

    Lecturer AY (Range 3) - $6,221 - $13,224

    Lecturer AY (Range 4) - $6,825 - $14,523

    Lecturer AY (Range 5) - $8,593 - $15,211

    The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.

    DATE OF APPOINTMENT: Fall Semester begins August 19, 2024 and Spring Semester begins January 21, 2025.

    QUALIFICATIONS: M.A. in History or related field required; A.B.D. or Ph.D. in history or related field and university teaching experience is preferred. For 1-unit lab courses with career emphases, professionals must hold commensurate advanced degrees in their fields, in addition to the BA or BS degree.
