    The Position

    Engineering Technicians perform a broad range of duties involving technical engineering work in support of professional engineers including drafting, engineering calculations, surveying, materials and soils testing, construction inspection, roadway design, right-of-way engineering, planning, permitting and inspection, water rights appropriation and land acquisition in support of civil or related professional engineering work. Work requires the application of technical engineering skills, methods and practices in compiling technical data, drafting, computer aided software, operating specialized equipment and preparing engineering related documents.

    Under general direction, incumbents function independently at the advanced journey level performing technical work requiring knowledge of engineering theories, principles, concepts and practices in a specialized area.

    This position is located within District I, Las Vegas. Incumbent is responsible for ensuring that contractors quantities of work are documented, necessary testing, surveying, and inspections are completed, and that all construction crew activities are completed using proper methods and standards. Responsibilities include survey functions, assisting construction crews, drafting plans and specifications, field inspections of projects, cost estimations, and project coordination at the discretion of the District Engineer. The incumbent will also be responsible for reviewing and providing comments on change order requests, project closeout documents, meeting minutes, and working with city and county project teams to complete project documentation. Engineer Technicians on construction crews work alternative shifts and outside of traditional business hours and outside in a wide range of temperatures and climates.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering, physics, math or closely related field and two years of experience in a specialized engineering function or program area which involved the application of work procedures, standards and controls; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements This position requires a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. In addition, federal statute required random testing for controlled substances during employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
