    Sonoma State University’s beautiful 274-acre campus is located in Sonoma County wine country, an hour north of San Francisco.     The Department

    The Department of Business Administration at Sonoma State University offers high-quality, relevant education in business to aspiring and practicing professionals, managers, and entrepreneurs in the private and public sectors. It does this in a liberal arts and sciences environment in which faculty emphasize the development and continuous improvement of the skills of critical thinking, effective communication, ethical reasoning, maintaining a global perspective, and applying disciplinary tools. The department offers programs of study leading to both the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees. The BSBA program offers concentrations in accounting, finance, financial management, management, marketing, and wine business strategies. The graduate program includes a professional MBA, a wine business MBA, and an executive MBA. All of our faculty have a demonstrated commitment to teaching and advising students from diverse backgrounds and are expected to participate in the mission of building an academic community that fosters inclusive excellence for all members. The department is structured into three Areas: (1) Management and Entrepreneurship Area, (2) Marketing, Wine Business, and Operations Management Area, and (3) Accounting, Finance, and Business Analytics Area. This lecturer pool is solely for the Management and Entrepreneurship Area.

    Duties of the Position

    Successful applicants will teach one or more graduate or undergraduate courses in business administration subjects, specifically those courses related to the Management, Entrepreneurship, or Business Law areas. When available, the course load is usually one 4-credit course per semester on an intermittent rather than continual schedule. Please note that these appointments are not guaranteed and are normally not available on a continuing semester-to-semester basis. The teaching load does not normally consist of more than one 4-credit course for the semester of appointment. Note that being accepted to the pool is not a guarantee of employment, but merely indicates that the candidate is qualified to teach specific courses when departmental needs arise. Courses that are relevant to this pool include: BUS 225 - Legal Environment of Business, BUS 340 - Survey of Human Resource Management, BUS 344 - Organizational Behavior, BUS 350 - Management, BUS 386MG - Social Entrepreneurship, BUS 391 - Cross-Cultural Communication and Negotiation, BUS 393 - Introduction to International Business, BUS 451 - Entrepreneurship, BUS 452 - Leadership, BUS 453 - Small Business Analysis, BUS 454 - Entrepreneurial Finance, BUS 491 - Seminar in Management Strategy & Policy, BUS 540 - Managing and Motivating Employees, BUS 552 Leadership and Innovation, BUS 554 - Social Entrepreneurship in Theory and Practice, BUS 591 - Seminar in Strategic Management, BUS 592 - Entrepreneurship & New Venture Creation, and BUS 593 - Seminar in International Business.

    Professional Qualifications

    To be recommended for appointment, the candidate must meet the following requirements :

    Required:
    • Candidates must have an earned Master's degree or higher in Business Administration (or a closely related field) from an accredited program, for all courses other than BUS 225.
    • For BUS 225, a JD from an accredited program with an emphasis in Business Law is required.
    • Candidates must meet the criteria of Instructional Practitioner (IP) according to the Department of Business Administration's current faculty qualifications policy.
    • For courses other than BUS 344, BUS 453, and BUS 225, successful candidates must also have had experience at the mid-management level or above in an organizational responsibility center for a minimum of five of the last six calendar years. Experience must be in at least one area of general management, human resource management, entrepreneurship, or leadership.
    • Candidates for BUS 453 and BUS 454, in addition to a minimum requirement of a master's degree and IP (or higher) status, must have a minimum of 5 years formal, full-time experience in the Small Business area (especially in the finance area for BUS 454).
    • Candidates for BUS 391 or BUS 393, in addition to a minimum requirement of a master's degree and IP (or higher) status, must have a minimum of 5 years formal, full-time managerial work experience in the International Business area.
    • For BUS 225, the successful candidate must have experience as a practicing attorney in the area of Business Law for a minimum of five years of the last six calendar years.
    • In order to maintain current status in the pool, successful candidates must maintain their status by continuing professional activities in accordance with the Department of Business Administration's faculty qualifications policy.

    Preferred:
    • Substantial prior teaching experience in higher education.
    • For BUS 344, a Master's degree or higher in Industrial/Organizational Psychology will also be considered, preferably from an APA-accredited program.
    • Strong preference will be given to candidates who hold an earned Ph.D. or DBA in Business Administration (or closely related field) from an accredited institution and who are Scholarly Academics or Practice Academics according to the Department's current faculty qualifications policy.
    • Preference will also be given to candidates holding industry-recognized certifications in the area of management, such as the SPHR or PHR for human resource management.


    Rank and Salary

    Full-time is a 15-unit workload per semester. Actual salary is dependent upon the number of units assigned, educational preparation, and availability of funds subject to any CSU system faculty contract salary increases.
    • Salary commensurate with degree level and experience.
    • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,530 - $6,056 per full-time month.
    • The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salary range indicated above is prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
    • Selection as a candidate in the applicant pool, does not guarantee employment. Temporary Faculty appointments are made on a part-time, temporary basis and contingent upon department needs and funding.
    • Temporary Faculty appointments are made on a semester-by-semester basis.
    • Relocation expenses will not be provided for temporary faculty appointments.
    • Expenses incurred to attend an interview for temporary faculty positions are not reimbursed by the University.
