    DUTIES

    ANNUAL SALARY
    $105,798 (flat rated)

    NOTE :

    DUTIES
    A Street Lighting Electrician acts as a lead for and works with a crew of workers engaged in the construction and repair of electrolier street lighting systems.

    REQUIREMENT(S)/MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S)

    REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    A valid California B driver’s license or higher and valid medical certificate approved by the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles at the time of filing; and Two years of full-time paid experience as an Assistant Street Lighting Electrician, Line Maintenance Assistant, or in a position which is at that level which provides experience in constructing electrolier street lighting systems and repair and maintenance of low voltage street lighting circuitry.
    PROCESS NOTES
    Applicants who lack six months or less of the required experience may file for this examination. However, they cannot be appointed until the full experience requirement is met.Candidates will be asked to submit a commercial driving history in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles Section 1808.1 prior to appointment. Candidates may not be eligible for appointment if their record within the last 36 months reflects three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents, or a conviction of a major moving violation (such as DUI).
    SELECTIVE CERTIFICATION
    In accordance with Charter Section 1010 (b) and Civil Service Rule 5.31, selective certification will be used for some positions that require special skills and/or training. Only persons possessing the following specific experience at the time of filing may be considered for appointment to fill such positions:

    One year of experience in the repair and maintenance of high voltage street lighting circuitry.

    Civil Service Rule 4.2
    In accordance with Civil Service Rule 4.2, all applicants who apply may not be tested in this examination. To meet anticipated hiring needs, only a limited number of qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the selection process in the following order: 1) Los Angeles City Promotional applicants who meet the minimum requirements. You must have received a regular appointment to a City position or be on a reserve list to apply for this examination as a promotional candidate; 2) Applicants currently employed by the City of Los Angeles on a part-time or exempt basis who meet the minimum requirements; 3) Remaining applicants who meet the minimum requirements in sufficient numbers to meet hiring needs based on random sampling of those qualified candidates. Applicants not selected to be tested may re-apply in a subsequent filing period in order to be considered for that period's selection process.

    The examination score will be based entirely on the interview. In the interview, the following competencies may be evaluated: Judgement and Decision Making; Self-Management; Initiative; Teamwork; Oral Communication; Written Communication; Safety Focus, including knowledge of: safety practices, including the proper use and pre-inspection of personal protective equipment as required by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI); proper traffic delineation procedures outlined in the Work Area Traffic Control Handbook (WATCH) as they relate to setting-up safety equipment; Job Knowledge, including knowledge of: street lighting electrical symbols; different types of street light posts used by the Bureau; Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction Manual (SSPWCM), such as various types of wire and cable, types of insulation, installation of conduit, electrical bonding of conduit, conduit depths, and proper cable and wire splicing techniques for high and low voltage; a variety of electrifier standard plans including parts lists, types of luminaries, type of foundations required, mouthing heights, and overall dimensions; proper application and operation of various equipment, such as an ammeter, heating coil, Megger, fuses, and circuit breakers; repair procedures to apply to different forms of conduit and cable damage; and other necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities.

    For candidates who apply during Filing Period 1, it is anticipated that interviews will begin during the period of MARCH 11, 2024 to MARCH 22, 2024.

    For candidates who apply during Filing Period 2, it is anticipated that interviews will begin during the period of MARCH 17, 2025 to MARCH 28, 2025.
