The WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Program within the Public Health Division currently has one (1) vacancy at the San Pablo WIC Site located in San Pablo, CA. You may occasionally be required to travel to various locations in Contra Costa County.
The Senior Public Health Nutritionist provides lead direction to the professional and support staff of a public health nutrition program and performs program liaison activities with collaborating agencies and community groups.
The Women, Infants, and Children’s (WIC) Program serves pregnant women, women who have recently been pregnant, infants, children up to their fifth birthday. WIC's mission is to provide all women, infants, and children healthy food, and the knowledge and opportunity to make healthy choices in an atmosphere of dignity and respect, thus enhancing the potential for all Californians to enjoy a higher quality of life.
We are looking for someone who:- Has knowledge of community resources research pertaining to public health nutrition
- Can interpret the nutritional aspects of a specialized program
- Has excellent verbal and written communication, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills
- Can provide nutrition education and breastfeeding support
- Has excellent interpersonal skills with a strong ability to work in a team environment
What you will typically be responsible for: - Assigning day-to-day activities of the WIC Program’s nutritional services component
- Directing and reviewing the work of Nutritionists and interns
- Training and educating program staff and other health professionals
- Developing and evaluating nutrition assessment systems
- Collecting and analyzing statistical data
- Providing individual counseling, group counseling and nutrition education
- Following federal, state, and county policies and procedures

The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six (6) months. Minimum Qualifications
License Required: Possession of a
valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Out of state valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License will be accepted during the application process.
Registration Required: Current Certificate of Registration as a Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
Experience: Two (2) years of full-time, or its equivalent, experience performing community based nutrition work.
Substitution for Experience: Possession of a master's degree in nutrition, public health nutrition, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
Selection Process
1. Application Filing and Evaluation: All applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application. Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.
2. Training and Experience Evaluation: At the time of filing, within the supplemental questionnaire, candidates will be required to complete a training and experience questionnaire. Candidates that clearly meet the minimum qualifications, as described above, will have their training and experience responses evaluated. The training and experience questionnaire is designed to measure candidate’s relevant education, training, and/or experience as it relates to Senior Public Health Nutritionist classification.
