DESCRIPTIONS OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The The Information Technology Division of the Houston Airport System (HAS) provides technology systems and information that enhances the passenger experience and empowers the Houston Airports to meet its mission and vision. The Information Technology's Server Team within the Information Technology Division of the Houston Airport System (HAS) by provides a robust secure available server/data farm by proactively deploying tools, techniques and procedures (TTP) to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of HAS data, information and systems.

The Senior IT Professional - Infrastructure enables the Houston Airport System to serve its customers by proactively resolving faults, performance tuning, testing backups, patching firmware/updates and mentoring team members. This position resolves complex faults in a timely fashion and works independently with ticket assignments. The Senior IT Professional - Infrastructure will provide solutions and guidance to many different technical disciplines and verticals. This position is expected to be available on an as needed basis. "Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required."

The duties of the Senior IT Professional - Infrastructure include but are not limited to:

TECHNICAL EXPERT: Usually has advanced technical certifications that demonstrate mastery of a specialized infrastructure discipline. Typically participates in industry/technical users groups. Proactively resolves highly complex technology problems by providing expert technical advice. May serve as highest level of escalation internally.

OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE: Oversees a variety of highly complex analytical and technical assignments; provides subject matter expertise and advice for assigned technology and infrastructure systems; plans, manages, and implements infrastructure projects and upgrades; designs and documents infrastructure processes, procedures, and standards. Ensures effectiveness of infrastructure by performing preventive maintenance work and monitoring system performance; diagnoses problems; works with external vendors and COH departments; and supports back-ups for a variety of technologies, business units, and systems.

STRATEGY: Understands how technology infrastructure systems support business objectives. Drives innovation and creative solutions by providing value propositions. Influences the strategy; acts as a technical thought leader in specialized area. Implements best practices and uses knowledge of internal and external technology challenges and opportunities to drive business transformation. Addresses risks, limitations and vulnerabilities.

TEAM EFFORT: Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results and performing related responsibilities as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS
There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a video display terminal. There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions. May occasionally require work in outdoor environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management and Information Systems (MIS) or a closely related field.

Information systems-specific technical certifications may be substituted for 1 year of either the education or the experience requirement, as applicable.

Related professional Information Systems experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
At least six (6) years of technology experience supporting IT infrastructure. System-specific technical certifications required. Advanced certifications and applicable work experience beyond six (6) years may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the education requirement.


System-specific technical certifications may be considered for substitution for 1 year of experience.

A Master's degree in Computer Science, Management and Information Systems (MIS) or a closely related field may be substituted for two years of the experience requirement.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
None .

PREFERENCES

Preferences will be given to applicants with the following:

  • 10 years of progressive experience in deploying, managing, supporting, patching and optimizing VMware clusters.
  • 10 years of progressive experience in deploying, managing, supporting, patching and optimizing storage area networks, similar to Dell Compellent, HPE Nimble, Dell EMC Isilon, and Brocade fabrics.
  • 10 years of experience in backup technologies, managing backup jobs, testing jobs and optimizing backups. Especially using Veeam backup and Replication or other major backup applications.
  • 10 years of experience managing, tuning, and auditing Microsoft Active Directory, including DNS, DHCP, DFS, and GPOs.
  • 6 years of experience with alert management, including optimizing alerts, resolving alerts and customizing alerting thresholds and alerting strategies. Preferred Solarwinds experience or other major alerting tool.
  • 6 years Azure and or AWS cloud technology experience, including networking, provisioning, load balancing, backups, troubleshooting, and designing cloud based infrastructures.
***Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for.
