Job Description

The Deputy City Manager reports directly to and assists the City Manager in overseeing and working with the nine City departments to achieve departmental and city-wide objectives, initiate and oversee strategic plans, and execute Mayor and Council policy initiatives. Responsibilities also require significant contact with residents and community leaders, as well as other governments. Additionally, the Deputy City Manager will have a leading role in developing and overseeing the City’s internal and external social justice and equity strategy. The Deputy will serve as Acting City Manager in the City Manager’s absence, and must be capable of executing the City Manager’s duties.

Job Requirements

To qualify for this position, candidates must have earned a Bachelor’s degree in public administration, planning, finance, human resources or a related field, with a minimum of seven (7) years professional management and supervisory experience; a Master’s degree in Public Administration, or a related field, is strongly desired; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to be successful in the position. The selected candidate must be able to obtain a Maryland Driver’s License in a reasonable period of time and will be required to reside within the corporate limits of Rockville. The starting salary for this position ranges from $175,000 - $200,000 DOQ/E, plus excellent benefits.
