Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Assistant Vice Provost for International Programs, the Assistant Director for the International Center manages the administrative and programmatic operations of the Study Abroad area of the Cal Poly International Center as well as the international travel of students on non-credit programs. The position performs a broad range of professional and analytical duties including developing, recommending, and implementing short- and long-term strategies, programs, and objectives to further the mission of the International Center, and is responsible for the operations of the International Center in the absence of the Assistant Vice Provost.

This position will be a 2- year temporary with an option to ultimately make it permanent, budget permitting, and is eligible for full benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and CalPERS retirement.

Department Summary

The primary mission of the Cal Poly International Center is to provide leadership and coordination for international activities and programs and to serve as a catalyst for internationalization efforts at Cal Poly. The IC maintains administrative authority and university-wide oversight of international engagement and initiatives supported by the campus. We are committed to providing equity and access to services and programs for the populations we serve, including for students studying abroad and international students and scholars at Cal Poly. Key Qualifications
  • Strong supervision/leadership skills and ability to apply modern management/administrative techniques to coordinate and manage staff.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and interpretive skills to analyze situations, define problems, develop, interpret and apply policies, identify concerns, and develop and implement solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate formative assessment plans for departmental programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain highly effective, professional working relationships with campus and CSU administrators, auxiliaries, faculty, staff, students, and members of the general public.
  • Demonstrated high standards of conduct, ethics, sensitivity, and confidentiality in dealing with various internal and external constituencies.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree AND five (5) years of progressively responsible professional student services work, International Programs, or related fields.
